While we all know the iconic red kiosk that sit outside our local gas stations and grocery stores,  Redbox is now moving into the streaming world. They are joining the ranks of the many other streaming services, giving cord cutters even more options to shun traditional cable and satellite TV.

Redbox’s new service, called Free Live TV, is just as the name states—Free. However, as it launches, it has little to offer with a weak content library. This initial roll out of the service is limited to a “select audience,” and will roll out nationwide in time. If you’re one of the lucky few to be in the ‘select audience’ you can access Free Live TV via Redbox’s website. You can also access it using the Redbox app for iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Even though the company offers blockbuster hits in its traditional kiosks, when it comes to Free Live TV, these hits are noticeably missing. Instead, however, Redbox highlights its partnerships with USA Today and TMZ. Other content that you’ll find on the new streaming service include channels dedicated the shows like America’s Funniest Home Videos and Family Feud.

As the service launches, it appears that Redbox is trying to compete with Amazon’s IMDb TV. IMDb TV offers a free, ad-supported option to watch movies and TVs for movies. However, Redbox has a long way to go since IMDb TV offers popular shows like Desperate Housewives and White Collar, and movies like Hitch, Ace Ventura, and A Few Good Men. The service is also similar to the ad-supported service offered by ViacomCBS’s Pluto TV.

The idea behind Free Live TV is to meet the entertainment needs of Redbox consumers while also building new advertising revenue streams for the company. To date, Free Live TV does not offer any traditional cable or broadcast TV channels or programming.
