The UConn Huskies, with the most March Madness wins at 11, failed to make it as far as the Elite Eight before getting smacked down by the Buckeyes in the Sweet Sixteen. And Villanova’s NCAA top-scorer Maddy Siegrist couldn’t save the Wildcats from getting blown away by the Hurricanes in the same round.

No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks
Dynamic duo Aliyah Boston and Zia Cooke scored a combined 40 points against No. 2 Maryland in the Elite Eight. Before that, the team steamrolled UCLA, South Florida, and Norfolk State.
The defending champs are (knock wood) on a year+ long winning streak, 42 games, 36-0 for the season. Under head coach Dawn Staley, they’re poised to become the 10th team in NCAA Women’s B-ball history to shoot the moon and go undefeated all the way to the title.
This would net them back-to-back championships (only the fourth team to have done so) in their third straight Final Four.
No. 2 Iowa Hawkeyes
The Hawkeyes made their first Final Four in 30 years by defeating the Louisville Cardinals. Earlier victories include Colorado, Georgia, and Southeastern Louisiana.
Player of the Year Caitlin Clark’s 41-point triple-double is a first-ever in women’s or men’s NCAA tournaments. Her fellow starters, Gabbie Marshall, Kate Martin, McKenna Warnock, and Monika Czinano, all high-percentage shooters themselves, are why Iowa is the highest scoring team in the country.
No. 3 LSU Tigers
Head coach Kim Mulkey’s rebuilding program has paid off with this, her fifth Final Four. Two new team members fresh from the transfer portal helped LSU knock off Miami: former Terrapin Angel Reese and former Aggie Alexis Morris. Their defeat of the Hurricanes gets them a spot against the Hokies this weekend, their first Final Four in 15 years.

No. 1 Virginia Tech Hokies
Final Four first-timers Virginia Tech have been winning games since January, a 15-game streak second only to South Carolina’s marathon.
