Watch the 2024 PGA Championship for Less with Sling TV: Par for the Course on Affordable Streaming!

Last Updated:

The 2023 PGA Championship promises epic drives, edge-of-your-seat finishes, and plenty of drama. It’s all coming at you on Thursday, May 18 through May 21 on ESPN and CBS, and if you want to stream it for the lowest possible price, you should sign up for Sling TV and Paramount+ Premium.

In a hurry? The cheapest way to watch the whole Championship is with Sling Orange (50% off $40.00/mo your first month) and Paramount+ Premium ($9.99/mo with a 7-day free trial), which gives you access to the two channels you’ll need: ESPN and CBS.

First held in 1916, this is the 105th edition of the PGA Championship. It’s the second of the four major championships in men’s pro golf, with the first being The Masters, and the last two the U.S. Open (Sling TV guide) and the Open Championship. It’s an official stop on the PGA Tour, European Tour, and Japan Golf Tour.

The event takes place over four days, with 18 holes per day. The winner is awarded the Wanamaker Trophy, named for Rodman Wanamaker, a founder of the PGA of America. Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus are tied at five apiece for most PGA Championship wins.

The venue changes every year, but usually rotates around a few very exclusive courses. This year it’s being played on the East Course of the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York, just outside of Rochester.

Watching the PGA Championship on Sling TV

Streaming the morning coverage of the tournament with Sling TV is easy — it’s on ESPN, which is included with the Sling Orange base plan for $40.00/mo. Streaming the later-day coverage on CBS — you’ll need some third-party help for that.

There are two ways you can go here, depending on your location and preference. The first is an HD antenna, which is cheap and simple to set up indoors. An antenna will give you all the major networks throughout most of the country, and a whole lot more in many areas. Sling TV will even give you one free for pre-paying two months’ service — see our guide to local channels on Sling TV for more information.

The other option is to sign up for Paramount+ (deal details), CBS’s parent company’s streaming service. The Premium plan includes a live stream of most of CBS’s live sports, as well as a feed of your local CBS station, for just $9.99/mo. There’s a seven-day free trial, so if you just want to watch the Championship over the weekend, you could in theory do it free.

It’s a perfect way to watch the PGA (the ESPN/CBS broadcast arrangement continues through the rest of the PGA events). And when golf isn’t on, you’ll have one of the biggest streaming libraries of any service full of shows and specials from CBS, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Smithsonian, and Comedy Central. Not to mention the entire back-catalog of Paramount Studios movies.

You could also just sign up for a service that carries both CBS and ESPN — it would be simpler. But not cheaper: the next cheapest provider that carries both is currently Hulu + Live TV, which is $76.99/mo. Sling Orange at $40.00/mo combined with Paramount Premium at $9.99 is still far below that.

Golfers Competing in the PGA Championship 2023

This is a full field list of all the participants in this year’s PGA Championship. “CFPT” denotes members of the Corebridge Financial PGA Team, a group of PGA professional players. Brandon Shattuck, winner of the PGA Professional Championship (a completely separate tournament held in late April), will head the PGA team.

The top five golfers on the PGA leaderboard — Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, and Xander Schauffele — are all registered to play.

Other notable attendees include Jason Day, the winner of the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament, and Justin Thomas, last year’s PGA Champion at Southern Hills. Multiyear winner Tiger Woods is recovering from ankle surgery and will not be playing.

FAQ

What is LIV Golf?

LIV Golf is a rival golf tour to the PGA Tour, with its own series and events. It’s experimenting with different rules and formats, such as a points-based system of promotion and relegation. To date, it has signed several very high-profile golfers, including Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dusty Johnson, and Annika Sorenstam.

Why is LIV Golf the source of so much drama?

The PGA Tour has threatened its members with sanctions for playing in LIV events without the PGA’s permission. Several PGA members, starting with Kevin Na, have resigned from the PGA in order to play in LIV events. The reasons are complex and depend on who you ask, but the PGA’s position is that LIV is drawing away talent and sponsorship from the organizations that have made golf what it is today. Meanwhile, LIV’s opinion is that golfers should be able to play for whom they please.

How are LIV Golf members able to play in the PGA Championship?

LIV Golf members can play in the four majors, none of which are owned or operated by the PGA Tour. The PGA Championship is organized by the PGA of America, a separate entity that hasn’t had ties to the PGA Tour since 1968. There’s already been friction at The Masters earlier this year, which had a number of LIV Golf players participating, and Brooks Koepka almost won.

A LIV win at one of the majors would make it much harder for the PGA Tour to continue to try to shut LIV out.

How can I watch other major golf tournaments?

Where can I watch college golf?

The NCAA Division I Golf Championships are on the Golf Channel. The 2023 tournaments for both men and women are at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. You can find more information, including a schedule and list of teams, in our guide to the DI Men’s Golf Championship on Sling TV.
