Table Of Contents
As everyone knows, Major League Baseball teams play a lot of games. And that is as true of Spring Training as it is the regular season. Over roughly a month, a few hundred games are played.
Of course, they aren’t all broadcast. And many are available only through expensive options like MLB.TV and various regional sports networks (RSNs) like AT&T SportsNet and Bally Sports channels. But MLB Network features many games each day of Spring Training.
How to Stream Spring Training on Sling TV
Sling TV is a live TV streaming service that is most notable for being highly customizable. But it also happens to be the cheapest way to watch 2023 Spring Training games. They appear on MLB Network. (See the schedule below.)
You need to start with a base Sling TV plan. There are three options:
- Sling Blue: This plan features 40+ channels including Fox and NBC in select markets. It also offers related channels like Fox Sports 1 (FS1) and USA Network. And it includes NFL Network. It comes with 50 hours of cloud DVR storage and streaming on up to 3 devices at once. Cost: $40.00/mo.
- Sling Orange: This plan features 30+ channels — most notably The Disney Channel along with ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3 (includes ABC Sports broadcasts). It comes with 50 hours of cloud DVR but limits streaming to a single device. Cost: $40.00/mo.
- Sling Orange & Blue: This plan is just the two previous plans together. There is a lot of overlap with channels like AMC, BET, Cartoon Network, CNN, Comedy Central, Food Network, HGTV, History Channel, Lifetime, Nick Jr, TBS, TLC, and TNT. So it features 50+ channels. Cost: $55.00/mo.
To get MLB Network, you need the Sports Extra add-on. This is the way Sling TV works. Rather than give you a huge number of channels you will never watch, it allows you to pick and choose what you want with individual channel and group channel add-ons.
Sports Extra offers roughly a dozen channels depending on which base plan you have. The cost also varies. If you have the Orange or Blue plans, it is $11/mo. But if you have the Orange & Blue plan, it is $15/mo.
Here are the channels with O indicating they are in the Orange plan, B in the Blue plan, and OB in both. You get all the channels with the Sling Orange & Blue plan.

Spring Training Blackouts
Note that some of the games on the MLB Spring Training Schedule may be blacked out for you. This isn’t a limitation of Sling TV. This is just the way that the MLB licenses games.
Blackouts were originally designed to encourage people to go see games in person. Regardless of their utility today, they make being a baseball fan harder.
There is a distinction in sports broadcasting. There are in-market games and out-of-market games. An in-market game is one featuring a team that is located in that market. So if the Giants play the Royals, the game will be in-market for viewers in San Francisco and Kansas City. For all other viewers, the game would be out-of-market.
Generally, a game will be blacked out for in-market viewers. But this is made up for by having such games broadcast on local channels — usually RSNs.

FAQs
Are there other options for watching Spring Training games?
There are other options for watching Spring Training games. You could sign-up for an MLB.TV subscription, which allows you to watch all out-of-market games. It costs $149.99 for the year and gives you a great selection of Spring Training games. It’s also great for regular season games. But note that you will not be able to watch any of your local team’s games and no playoff games (including the World Series).
You can also watch Spring Training with the other live TV streaming services DIRECTV STREAM and Fubo, but they are roughly twice the price. The big services Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV don’t offer MLB Network at all.
What other baseball is occurring?
The college baseball season started in mid-February. You can find them mostly on the ESPN channels. Sling TV is the cheapest way to get these channels. Games also appear on Big Ten Network and Pac-12 Network. For gaming involving smaller schools, check out ESPN+ and FloSports.
