Sports This Week: Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson

I have followed Jake Paul’s boxing career with some interest. On the one hand, he generally fights athletes from other sports or boxers who are well beyond their primes. On the other hand, the guy’s a YouTuber!

I’ve never been interested enough to watch one of his fights. But tonight is different. Paul is fighting Mike Tyson. Yes, he’s 30 years older than Paul and well past his prime. But… He’s Mike Tyson!

(And for the record, I do not expect Tyson to bite Jake Paul’s ear. But if he does, well, that’s Christmas Come Early.)

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Date: Friday, November 15th
  • Time:
  • Streaming: Netflix

Note that coverage starts at . That’s when the first of the night’s seven fights starts. The Paul-Tyson match is the last.

Note that you can sign up for a month of ad-supported Netflix for just $6.99.  This is a great deal! Normally, it would be on PPV and cost upwards of $100!

As an old man (Older than Tyson!) I’d like to see Tyson crush the young pretender. But I doubt that will happen. Jake Paul is pretty good. And he’s 27 years old compared to Mike Tyson’s 58.

Regardless, it should be a lot of fun!

New This Week: “Scrubs” Meets “Parks & Recs” in Brand New Medical Mockumentary

St Denis Medical

I love a good mockumentary (think The Office and Parks and Recreation) and am a big fan of medical dramas, so I was beyond excited when I heard the new show St Denis Medical combines the two.

Featuring a trauma surgeon terrified of needles, the world’s most sarcastic doctor, and a new ER nurse who can’t tell the right side of a flu shot, it seems to have everything necessary to become a new comedy classic.

With cast and crew from Scrubs, The Office, Parks and Recs, Superstore, and The Goldbergs, I’m really hopeful this will become one of my new favorite shows. To find out if it could be one of yours, tune into the premiere on Tuesday, November 12th at on NBC — available on DIRECTV STREAM for free.

Don't Hate Your House

And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, Drew and Jonathan (the famous Property Brothers) are back with another guilty pleasure of mine: a brand new home renovation show. Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers helps families turn their impossible, unfixable homes into beautiful, livable spaces — in that heartfelt way you just KNOW will require tissues.

Catch all the drama and emotions tomorrow (November 13th) on HGTV — also available free with DIRECTV STREAM.

Why Get Rid of Cable TV?

Some reasons for cutting the cable cord are obvious, but there are more benefits that may not have occurred to you.

  • Time: Too much television is a waste of time. If you cancel cable and only watch your favorite TV shows, you can spend more time with your friends and family.
  • Money: A cable or satellite subscription costs many times more than it does to grab a simple on-demand plan with Hulu and Netflix. Cable is also more expensive than online cable replacement services with live TV channels, like Fubo and Hulu + Live TV.
  • Technology: Video streaming is the future of TV. Soon, all video entertainment will be via an online connection. You might as well get on board now, learn the tricks, and save money in the process.
  • Information: Be more informed. Rather than be at the mercy of local news anchors, you will revert to more reputable news feeds like PBS, Bloomberg, CBS News, and LinkTV. For example, Fubo provides 13 news and information channels, along with all the local affiliates in its base plan.
  • Freedom: Cable and satellite providers normally tie you into a long contract, only to give you prices that are still higher than comparable streaming services. Getting rid of cable means getting rid of the contract. Go month-to-month and be flexible.
  • Dignity: Stop getting ripped off! Calling up the cable company and canceling your cable will simply make you feel good.

How to Choose Best Streaming Service For You

Choosing the right streaming service is probably the most important decision that a cord-cutter will make. There is no absolute “best” streaming service. It all depends on what you want with your live TV streaming plan.

Some streaming services are free, like Peacock TV (although they have a premium plan). Sling TV offers value plans that are low-cost but offer a lot. And the full-featured plans of Fubo, Hulu Live TV, and DIRECTV STREAM) provide what you would expect from a standard cable plan, but with different bonus features designed to appeal to all sorts of viewers’ needs.
