Table Of Contents
Cricket dates back to the 16th century. But limited-overs games are pretty new, dating back only to the 1960s. And it was only in the last two decades that we’ve seen Twenty20 (T20) games.
These are games that are limited to 20 overs and tend to run about 3 hours. Although there is still great interest in the all-day (ODI) and 5-day games, T20 is more in line with most other professional sports.
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup started pretty early in the history of professional T20 cricket. The first event was in 2007. It has run more or less every two years since then. The exceptions are as follows:
- 2010: Changed to even-number years.
- 2018: Cancelled due to member nations being busy with bilateral commitments
- 2021: Delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup
Australia entered the 2022 T20 World Cup as defending champions. And although they played okay, they failed to make the semi-finals after England beat Sri Lanka in a nail-biter.
South Africa was also eliminated after a shocking defeat to the Netherlands the same day. Also out from the Super 12 are Ireland, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
That leaves England, India, New Zealand, and Pakistan — four strong teams that should result in three exciting matches.

Live Cricket on TV
Although ESPN+ has made a strong move into international cricket coverage, the home of cricket for US-based fans is Willow TV and its sub-channel Willow Xtra. There is also Willow Canada for cricket fans north of the border.
The main thing to remember about Willow is that any important cricket match will be found there. And unsurprisingly, Willow has broadcast every game of the T20 World Cup and they will be broadcasting the semi-finals and final.
Cricket on Sling TV
Sling TV is a live TV streaming service that offers hundreds of channel options, which you can mix and match.
You can sign up for Willow TV directly. But it’s more expensive that way for subscribers in the USA. It is an excellent option for those in Canada, however.
The base package includes Willow TV and Willow Xtra for $10/mo. But the first month is just $5. And if you sign up for a year, it is $60, which comes out to $5/mo.
Sling TV offers other benefits beyond price. In particular, it allows you to watch on up to three devices at the same time. It comes with a cloud DVR with 50 hours of storage. And it allows you to watch any live events for up to 8 days on-demand.
But we think the best thing about getting Willow through Sling TV is all the options that it offers you. You can combine your cricket viewing with one of Sling’s standard Orange or Blue plans for a good selection of general channels.
You can supplement these base plans with 6 Extra TV channel packages for as little as $6/mo. And you can add 46 specialty channel add-ons (for as little as $3/mo) to any plan.
Finally, subscribers from Asia can combine Willow TV with plans focused on a number of languages other than English: Bangla, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.
