Most streaming services offer free trials now, including Fubo, DIRECTV STREAM, and Hulu. Choosing the right service for your household is important and if, like me, you can struggle to make decisions, it’s helpful to try each option first. I’ve rounded up every streaming service offering a free trial — so you can watch TV and try all the features without paying anything.
In a hurry? These are the top free trials I suggest starting with:
Table Of Contents
Free trials are exactly that: a free way to watch TV and try out the service. You typically sign up for the plan you want, but won’t pay anything if you cancel before the trial period has finished. This provides a risk-free way to try out streaming services or watch free TV online.
There are two types of streaming services — those that offer live TV channels and those that only provide on-demand movies and shows.
Live TV Streaming Free Trials
Fubo Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Fubo offers a free trial on all its plans, though the length of this period can vary.
- Why You Should Sign up: Fubo is a well-rounded live TV streaming service offering 150+ channels in its base plan, covering news, sports, entertainment, and local networks. I generally recommend Fubo for sports fans, due to its large range of included regional sports networks (RSNs) and local channels.
- Fubo Deals.
Plans start at $79.99 after the trial period. This comes with unlimited cloud DVR storage and streaming on up to 10 devices at once.
Learn more in our full Fubo review.
DIRECTV STREAM Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: A 5-day free trial is now available for DIRECTV STREAM. Occasionally DIRECTV STREAM will swap this for monthly discounts on its plans.
- Why You Should Sign Up: DIRECTV STREAM is one of the most comprehensive cable-replacement services. It provides all local channels (depending on location) and the networks you’d expect from satellite providers. It’s well-suited for large households as there’s no restriction on how many screens can watch at once.
- DIRECTV STREAM Deals.
DIRECTV STREAM plans start at $86.99. For further details, see our DIRECTV STREAM review.
Hulu + Live TV Free Trial
- Trial Details: Hulu + Live TV offers free trials to new and eligible returning customers. The length of the trial depends on the subscription you sign up for.
- Why You Should Sign Up: Hulu + Live TV provides a proficient balance of both live and on-demand TV for a competitive price. With an impressive on-demand library and 95+ channels, the addition of ESPN+ and Disney+ creates a comprehensive all-in-one package you can’t get from another provider.
For $82.99/month once the free trial’s ended, Hulu + Live TV comes with an unlimited cloud DVR (nine months of storage) and streaming on up to two devices at once.

Philo Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Try Philo free for 7 days. This includes all of Philo’s add-ons — Movies & More ($3/mo), MGM+ ($7/mo), AMC+ ($4/mo), and Starz ($11/mo).
- Why You Should Sign Up: Philo is one of the cheapest live-TV streaming services available, offering 70+ channels plus an on-demand library and unlimited DVR.
I was surprised by how many channels Philo offers for $28.00/month. It doesn’t have any sports or local channels, but you get unlimited DVR storage and streaming on up to three devices.
See our Philo review for more information.
Frndly TV Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Get Frndly TV free for 7 days! That will give you time to check out its interface and see if you want to upgrade to a plan with multiple screens, HD streaming, and DVD storage.
- Why You Should Sign Up: At $6.99/month, Frndly TV is my first recommendation to any TV fan on a budget. With 50+ popular channels, an unlimited DVR, and 72-hour lookback feature, it provides a lot for its price.

On-Demand Streaming Free Trials
Paramount+ Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Both Paramount+ plans (Essential or with SHOWTIME) usually come with a one-week free trial.
- Why You Should Sign Up: If you’re a fan of CBS content, this service is for you. It provides an on-demand library of CBS movies and shows, plus your local CBS live stream (if available in your area).
- Paramount+ Deals.
Starting at $7.99/month for on-demand content, you can upgrade to $12.99/month to get the live CBS channel — one of the cheapest ways I’ve found to get both live TV and on-demand shows.
More information is in our Paramount+ review.
Hulu Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Try Hulu free for 30 days!
- Why You Should Sign Up: Hulu provides popular TV shows and Originals exclusive to the platform, meaning you won’t get them anywhere else. Starting at $7.99/month, it’s one of the cheapest ways to watch top shows and movies.
- Hulu Deals
Hulu is ideal for anyone wanting to watch some of the biggest new shows (particularly those from ABC and Fox) but isn’t worried about catching them live. Hulu consistently uploads the new and latest episodes of current shows to its on-demand library, often within twenty-four hours of first airing, meaning you don’t even need to wait long.
Many of my favorite shows are Hulu Originals (Only Murders in the Building anyone?!), and at $7.99/month I never hesitate to recommend it. This doesn’t include the Disney+/ESPN+ bundle (that’s part of the Hulu + Live TV service) but you can always upgrade to that later. Or get the ad-free on-demand service for $17.99/month.
Peacock Free Trial
- Trial Details: Peacock no longer offers a free trial through its own platform — but it’s included with an Instacart+ subscription which offers a two-week free trial.
- Why You Should Sign Up: Peacock is part of the NBCUniversal family, so it includes NBC content from NBC and Bravo, as well as live sporting events.
- Peacock Deals
Peacock is the streaming service for NBC and its related content. It includes popular TV shows like Mrs Davis, Poker Face, The Calling, Vampire Academy, and Yellowstone — all for just $7.99/month. Most devices are compatible, and you can stream on up to three screens at once.
BritBox Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: US subscribers get a seven-day free trial.
- Why You Should Sign Up: BritBox offers more British TV than any other streaming service, including dramas, comedies, documentaries, lifestyle, mysteries, and more.
Try BritBox Free for 7 Days!
BritBox is an on-demand streaming service that features original content from UK channels BBC and ITV. New content is added every month, and it also includes classic series (such as the first 26 — yes, 26! — seasons of Doctor Who). You can choose to subscribe directly, or through Amazon Prime, Roku Channel, or Apple TV Channels for $8.99/mo or $89.99/yr.
Apple TV+ Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Apple TV+ offers three free trials:
- Subscribing directly comes with a seven-day free trial.
- Purchasing any eligible Apple device includes a three-month free trial.
- Signing up to Apple One, which includes Apple TV+, provides a one-month free trial.
- Why You Should Sign Up: Apple TV+ is home to many Apple Original shows and movies exclusive to the platform, with new content released each month.
Apple Original shows and films are Emmy and Academy Award winners, exclusive to Apple TV+, and at $9.99/month it’s one of the cheapest on-demand streaming services available. It’s recently begun streaming some live sports as well and is now the home of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Live TV Sports Streaming Free Trials
NFL+ Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: NFL+ subscriptions don’t automatically come with a free trial, but the service will occasionally offer a seven-day free period throughout the year.
- Why You Should Sign Up: NFL+ has been designed for NFL fans on the go. And if your team is often out-of-market, it’s one of the easiest and low-cost ways to watch.
NFL+ is a feature-packed streaming service that allows football fans to watch all the local and nationally broadcast NFL games each week on their mobile devices starting at $6.99/month. And if you go up to the premium plan for $14.99/month, you can watch all the games on any device on replay. More information is covered in our NFL+ review.
TrillerTV+ Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Sign up for a seven-day free trial.
- Why You Should Sign Up: If you’re a combat sports fan, TrillerTV+ provides great combat action and access to top PPV events.
TrillerTV is the place for some of the best live fighting, with a TrillerTV+ subscription providing over 1,000 hours of live fights per year — that’s almost 20 hours a week. There’s also more than 4,000 hours of on-demand content, plus exclusives only available to subscribers ($7.99/month or $69.99/year).
Amazon Prime Video Free Trial
- Free Trial Details: Amazon Prime trials last for 30 days, and this includes access to Amazon Prime Video.
- Why You Should Sign Up: An Amazon Prime subscription provides more than just Prime Video — a plan includes access to Amazon Music, free ebooks and magazines, photo storage, shipping benefits, gaming, and much more. Add that to the exclusive original content produced by Amazon, and it’s easy to see why it’s worth trying.
- Amazon Prime Deals
Try Amazon Prime Free for 30 Days!
Amazon’s on-demand streaming platform has become one of the largest and most popular, offering hit shows and movies alongside a variety of other entertainment and household features. Or you can get Prime Video without any of the extra Prime benefits for $8.99/month.

FAQs
Are there any streaming services that are completely free?
There are many free streaming services. All you need is a decent internet connection. They generally aren’t great for newer shows. But if you want to binge seasons of The Rockford Files or Gilligan’s Island, they are great. An especially good one is Tubi, which has the slogan, “find your next rabbit hole.” There are also many services with live channels. Here are the services we like most:
- Crackle
- Freevee
- Plex
- Pluto
- The Roku Channel
- Tubi.
