Everything You Need to Know About the New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have called that city home since replacing the former Baltimore Orioles in 1903. They are based in the Bronx, New York City. And they have been MLB’s greatest franchise as far as World Series trophies are concerned, claiming 27 of them.
The team’s heyday was between 1923 and 1962 as it won 20 titles in that period. The other seven were secured in 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009.
The team initially played at Hilltop Park in Manhattan, just a mile west of where Yankee Stadium sits. Before moving there, however, the Yankees shared the Polo Grounds with the New York Giants. That facility was across the Harlem River from where the club would spend much of its history. The only exception from playing at either of the two Yankee Stadiums was two years spent at Shea Stadium (1974-75).
More recently, the team has again been a contender, having advanced to the postseason every year since 2017. Two American League Championship Series appearances occurred in that span, in 2017 and 2019, both resulting in defeats to the Houston Astros.
The 2021 regular season concluded with an exciting race for the two wild-card spots. But a defeat to the rival Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Game, 6-2, followed.
In 2022, the Yankees made the postseason after finishing first in the American League East Division standings with a 99-63 record. They beat the Cleveland Guardians to progress to the AL Championship Series where they were swept by the eventual winners Houston Astros.
Unfortunately, the Yankees’ 2023 campaign was underwhelming as they failed to make the postseason since 2016. They were fourth in the AL East division rankings with a record of 82-80.

FAQs
What radio stations broadcast New York Yankees games?
As expected, the New York Yankees Radio Network stretches across much of the Northeast, especially in New York State but also sporadically throughout New England. It even includes affiliates as far away as Florida (WMEN in West Palm Beach), New Mexico (KQTM in Albuquerque), and Connecticut (WUCS in Hartford). New York’s WFAN is its flagship station. You can also listen to the game on SiriusXM. Regardless of where you are, an MLB Audio subscription grants you online access to these broadcasts.
Is there a way to stream New York Yankees games for free?
You can only stream New York Yankees games for free on limited occasions. YouTube does stream one MLB game to a worldwide audience on a nearly weekly basis although the Yankees are generally not featured on those. Another option, which is only available to out-of-market fans, is the MLB.TV Free Game of the Day, which sometimes features the Yankees. And, of course, Fox- and ABC-broadcasted games can be viewed on television with an antenna.
