Ohio State Buckeyes Football
The Buckeyes represent Ohio State University in the Big Ten Conference. They play their home games at the 102,780-person capacity Ohio Stadium on the OSU campus in Columbus, Ohio. They are one of the most consistent football teams in all of the NCAA but the Ohio State athletics program is very strong in all areas.
The Ohio State Buckeyes started last season 11-0 and were looking forward to a Big 10 title and a spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP). Unfortunately, a 30-24 loss to Michigan derailed those hopes, and the team would finish 11-2 after losing to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl.
Head coach Ryan Day will have to overcome several key losses in an effort to rebuild his team. Quarterback Kyle McCord transferred to Syracuse while wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals. Look for the offense to use a higher tempo this year as Chip Kelly takes over as offensive coordinator. Jim Knowles will serve as defensive coordinator this season.
Conference realignment means that Ohio State will travel to Oregon to play a Big 10 game against the Ducks. This is the first of two games against schools ranked in the top 10 entering the 2024 season. The Oregon Ducks are currently third in the rankings while Penn State is eighth. Ohio State travels to play Penn State on November 2nd.
The Buckeyes also have a key game against Michigan to close out the regular season. The Wolverines are Ohio State’s fiercest rivals, and the rivalry itself is considered to be among the most famous in all of sports. Illinois is another close rival as the two schools have played each other in football since 1902.
Ohio State has claimed eight national championships with its most recent coming in 2014. In addition, the school was named an unofficial national champion by various sources six times in program history. The most recent unclaimed national title was awarded in 2006. Ohio State has also won 39 Big 10 titles and 13 division titles.
The school has produced a number of star NFL players including Chris Spielman, Eddie George and Orlando Pace. CJ Stroud, Joey Bosa and Chase Young are among key players from Ohio State currently in the NFL.
