The Roland-Garros, more commonly known as the French Open, is the second of the four Grand Slam tennis events (the major tennis championships of the year). The other three are the Australian Open, the US Open, and Wimbledon in England. All four are stops on both the ATP Tour (Association of Tennis Professionals) and the WTA Tour (Women’s Tennis Association), as is the Madrid Open which the French Open follows.
The French Open dates back to 1891, making it one of the world’s oldest tennis tournaments. The event is held annually at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France, which has been its home since 1928. Named for a French WWI war hero, both the tournament and the stadiums are known for the venue’s iconic clay courts, as the French Open is the only Grand Slam tournament played on clay.
The stadium has three courts, all named after French tennis legends: Court Philippe Chatrier (main), Court Suzanne Lenglen, and Court Simonne Mathieu.
The clay surface is why many tennis legends with multiple Grand Slam titles have never managed to conquer this particular major: John McEnroe, Venus Williams, Jimmy Connors, and Boris Becker are just some examples. Some tennis greats do well though, for example Rafael Nadal, Bjorn Borg, Chris Evert, Andre Agassi, and more.
The Men’s Singles winner receives the Coupe des Mousquetaires (The Musketeers’ Cup), while the Women’s Singles champ is awarded the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen (the Suzanne Lenglen Cup).
French Open 2024 TV Channels and Schedule
Coverage of the French Open is shared between NBC, Peacock, and the Tennis Channel, which is independently owned.
The Tennis Channel typically has an early morning preshow with recaps and highlights, then live coverage throughout the day – usually of the Men’s or Women’s Singles matches, then an encore presentation of the day’s matches, followed by more analysis.
On the weekends, Peacock covers the night session matches (), while NBC and Peacock both air a 2-3 hour block of live coverage earlier each day.
How To Watch the 2024 French Open Online
To livestream every moment of the 2024 French Open, you’ll need the Tennis Channel, NBC, and Peacock.
NBC
NBC is a local broadcast network, which means you should be able to watch it for free with a digital antenna (depending on where you live). Sling TV will even provide a free antenna if you pre-pay for two months of a plan. Get all the details in our Sling TV Local Channel Guide.
If you can’t or don’t want to set up an antenna, you can stream all the action online with Sling TV’s Blue plan. This provides NBC to anyone living within an NBC affiliate’s coverage region. If you live in one of these areas, you’re all set.
Here are the regions where Sling offers NBC:
- Boston (WBTS)
- Chicago (WMAQ)
- Dallas/Fort Worth (KXAS)
- Hartford/New Haven (WVIT)
- Los Angeles (KNBC)
- Miami/Fort Lauderdale (WTVJ)
- New York City (WNBC)
- Philadelphia (WCAU)
- San Diego (KNSD)
- San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose (KNTV)
- Washington, D.C. (WRC)
If you don’t live in one of these locations, you’ll likely need to stream the NBC coverage on Peacock instead.
Peacock
Peacock is NBC’s dedicated streaming service. As a standalone platform, you’ll need to sign up for it separately.
Peacock costs $7.99/mo and provides access to live sports and TV, including NBC Sports, Premier League TV, and GolfPass. Since Sling TV is already one of the most affordable streaming services available, Sling Blue with Peacock still works out cheaper than the base plan of other popular platforms.
If you don’t want to subscribe to Peacock, you can still watch the majority of the French Open with just NBC and the Tennis Channel.
The Tennis Channel
Weekday coverage of the French Open will be shown on the Tennis Channel – so if you want to watch every moment of the French Open, you’re going to need it!
Sling TV offers the Tennis Channel as part of its Sports Extra add-on package for an additional $11/mo. This provides beIN Sports, MLB Network, MLB Network Strike Zone, NBA TV, NHL Network, and (of course) Tennis Channel. When added to the Sling Blue plan, it also comes with NFL RedZone, Big Ten Network, FS2, and Golf Channel.
One of Sling TV’s biggest strengths is the ability to customize your package to your specific needs by providing multiple add-on bundles and channels. Read more in our guide to Sling TV packages.
