Kansas Jayhawks Channels
The first step is learning which channels will or might broadcast KU matchups this fall. The Big 12 television contracts are essential to this as every conference game, home and away, falls under those as well as non-conference home tilts. These agreements result in Kansas games airing predominantly on ABC, Fox, FS1, ESPN, or ESPN2 with exclusive ESPN+ streams in the mix as well.
Of these types of matchups that were played in 2023, at least one was shown on each of those outlets with the most, three, featured on FS1. The 2024 season is expected to be similar to last season with ABC- and Fox-broadcast matchups being more common if the team has an especially good season, much less so if it is a campaign that is far from expectations.
A non-conference game at Illinois on September 7 falls under the Big Ten broadcast contracts, but it is being shown on FS1 anyway, so as long as you get access to those six outlets, you will be set.

Kansas Jayhawks Football
The Kansas Jayhawks are coming off of a solid 9-4 campaign in which the school finished 23rd in both major polls. What does 2024 have in store? Of course, that is impossible to predict, but most prognosticators believe that KU will be in the top 25 again, possibly break into the top 15 or higher.
If that does happen, it will continue a resurgence as last season marked KU’s first winning record since 2008 and just its fourth since 1995.
Coaching
The main reason for this turnaround has been head coach Lance Leipold, who won six Division III national championships with UW-Whitewater between 2007-14 before building Buffalo’s program into a MAC power and looking to do the same with Kansas and the Big 12. His first Jayhawks team went 2-10, but that was followed by a near-.500 6-7 campaign and then last year’s 9-4 season.
Players
What most believe to be the key ingredient in a Big 12 title push is the healthy status of Jalon Daniels, who has the potential to be the conference’s, maybe the nation’s, top quarterback in 2024 but who also missed most of last season, including the entire second half of it, due to a back injury.
Daniels is planning to regularly hand the ball off to running back Devin Neal, a Lawrence native who may set school records for career rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns this fall. Meanwhile, wide receivers Lawrence Arnold and Luke Grimm should receive plenty of touches as well.
The defense is somewhat of a question mark although that is not the case at the cornerback position as both Mello Dotson and Cobee Bryant are viewed as amongst the Big 12’s best. Otherwise, the defensive line should also be a strength with Jereme Robinson as one of its leaders.
Temporary Stadiums in 2024
No 2024 home games will be played at Memorial Stadium, the team’s normal home, as it is undergoing extensive construction. This season’s non-conference home contests will take place at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, KS, while KU’s home Big 12 matchups will be played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO.

FAQs
What is a Jayhawk? Is it a real bird?
A Jayhawk is a mythical bird, not a real one. The name’s inspiration dates to Kansas Jayhawker militias from around 1850 while the bird-like elements of this fictional character and the mascot that you will see on broadcasts this fall come from blue jays and sparrow hawks.
Has Kansas football ever been good?
The Kansas Jayhawks are one of the oldest college football teams, having entered its first season in 1890. Since then, it’s made it to 12 bowl games and won the conference championships six times. The last time was in 1968. From 1969, the team’s winning percentage declined, though it secured an Orange Bowl victory and top 10 finish in the AP Poll in 2007.
