FAQ

How does the NCAA baseball tournament work?

The NCAA baseball tournament is unique in that it doesn’t have typical quarterfinals and semifinals, but does include four tiers of competition: Regionals, Super Regionals, the Men’s College World Series (MCWS), and a best-of-three final. After the conference tournaments, teams either automatically qualify for Regionals based on their end-of-season ranking, or receive an at-large bid from the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

Teams are seeded during the tournament selection process. They then compete in a double-elimination bracket during Regionals, with the sixteen winning teams advancing to the Super Regionals.

How are College World Series teams selected?

Teams for the NCAA baseball tournament are selected based on their performance during the regular season. Automatic qualification is awarded to 31 teams for either winning their conference’s tournament or by finishing in first place, with the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee selecting another 33 teams to receive at-large bids.
