About the Dallas Cowboys in 2024

Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles
Cropped from Cowboys vs Eagles by Billy Bob Bain under CC BY 2.0.

The Dallas Cowboys are known for giving their fans an exciting show. It’s hard to miss a minute because anything can happen when this team hits the field. The team is based in Frisco and plays home games at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Cowboys make the playoffs more times than not, including in each of the past three seasons. However, success beyond that point has remained out of reach as the last time that Dallas played in the NFC Championship Game was in 1995, which is also when they last lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Cowboys Personnel

Quarterback Dak Prescott is entering his ninth season with the franchise, and he is coming off a solid 2023 campaign in which the veteran led the league in touchdown passes with 36 and finished second in AP MVP voting. However, his offensive line and the team’s running game are expected to struggle, but Prescott will have one of the league’s top receivers to throw to in CeeDee Lamb.

The franchise did little in the offseason with its primary move being the free agent signing of linebacker Eric Kendricks, who played eight years for the Vikings before going to the Chargers for one a season ago. He will be joined by linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who missed his rookie season after suffering a torn ACL during the 2023 preseason. Micah Parsons, an edge rusher who was named to the past three Pro Bowls, is also expected to continue to impress.

However, the defensive line may struggle although the secondary could be a strength.

The kicking phase of the game should impress though as Dallas has one of the NFL’s top special teams, partially consisting of second-year kicker Brandon Aubrey, who led the league with 36 field goals and 157 points as a rookie, and punter Bryan Anger, a 12-year veteran who, in 2023, set a career high in yards per punt at 51.4.

Dallas Cowboys Coaching

The 2024 season will also be the second in which Mike McCarthy, who has been the Cowboys’ head coach since 2020, will be calling the plays.

He will be looking to finally lead the Cowboys to the types of successes that he did throughout his 13-year reign in Green Bay, during which the Packers won a Super Bowl and played in four NFC Championship Games.
