The team competes in the National Hockey League as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. They are based in Toronto where they originally started back in 1917 as the Toronto Arenas. They moved to the Air Canada Centre in 1991, after leaving, Maple Leaf Gardens, which had been their base since 1931. The franchise was established in 1917 as the Toronto Arenas, operated by the Toronto Arena Company. It was renamed Toronto St. Patricks and finally in 1927, the franchise was sold again and rebranded as the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club.
As one of the ‘Original Six’ league members, the Maple Leafs have a rich history in the sport. Over the years, the Maple Leafs have achieved great success, winning thirteen Stanley Cup championships. However, their last championship victory came in 1967, resulting in a 48-season drought, currently the longest in the NHL. Despite this, the team remains a beloved and iconic franchise in the hockey world.
