About the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans were probably the most surprising team in the AFC last year going from 3-13-1 in 2022 to 10-7 in 2023. They would manage to win the AFC South and defeat Cleveland in the first round of the playoffs. Coach DeMeco Ryans quickly established a culture of toughness and accountability, and he also had the fortune of hitting on top 2023 draft pick CJ Stroud.

Stroud would become one of the top quarterbacks in the league in his rookie season, and his ascension led to the growth of receivers Tank Dell and Nico Collins. They will be joined by Stefon Diggs, who was traded to the team from Buffalo in the offseason. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik will also have running backs Dameon Pierce and Joe Mixon to work with next season.

On defense, the Texans are anchored by pass rusher Will Anderson, who had seven sacks in his rookie season. Other defenders of note include safety Jalen Pitre, cornerback Jeff Okudah, and defensive end Danielle Hunter.

Houston is a favorite to repeat as the AFC South champion, and there are some who believe that the Texan offense has enough to get to the Super Bowl. Of course, the Jaguars will also be tough while the Colts and Titans are hoping to rebound with Anthony Richardson and Will Levis running their offenses.

Entering this season, the Texans are one of four franchises that have never appeared in the Super Bowl. The others are Detroit, Cleveland, and Jacksonville. In addition, Houston has never made an appearance in the AFC title game. Houston has won five playoff games in franchise history including its victory over Cleveland last year.

Andre Johnson is generally considered to be the best offensive player in team history while JJ Watt is generally considered the same on the defensive side of the ball. Both Johnson and Watt have a solid chance of making it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
