As I watch the Carolina Hurricanes chase another deep playoff run following their Conference Finals appearance last year, there’s excitement about what this 2023-24 NHL season holds. Here’s my guide to catching every Hurricanes game live online this season.
In a hurry? Local Hurricanes fans need Bally Sports South to watch almost all the games. You can get with these streaming services:
Fubo
Known for its outstanding sports coverage, Fubo’s 150+ live TV channels provide a broad selection that appeals to most people. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.
DIRECTV STREAM
The king of RSNs, this is the streaming service for MLB, NBA, and NHL fans with its Choice Plan. New customers get a 5-day free trial with DIRECTV STREAM.
If you can’t watch your favorite sports because of your location, get ExpressVPN to access the content you deserve.
The Carolina Hurricanes originally joined the NHL as the New England Whalers, back when the team first joined in 1971. They became the Hurricanes when they moved to North Carolina in 1997.
Now regarded as one of the top teams in the league, the Canes are favorites to win this season, despite not having lifted the Stanley Cup since 2006.
After finishing second overall in the regular season standings for 2022-23, and only losing in the Eastern Conference Final to the Florida Panthers, have they got what it takes in 2023-24?

What TV Channels Air Carolina Hurricanes Games?
Almost all Carolina Hurricanes regular season games (71 out of 82) will air on Bally Sports South. This is a Regional Sports Network (RSN) usually available throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
If you’re within these states, you should be able to watch Bally Sports South through a streaming service that carries RSNs, such as Fubo or DIRECTV STREAM (more below).
Fans outside of the Bally Sports South broadcast region (known as out-of-market) can watch through an ESPN+ subscription instead. This is available directly from ESPN+ or as part of the Hulu + Live TV package.
Four Hurricanes games will air nationally on TNT and ESPN. These won’t be available on Bally Sports.

How to Stream All Carolina Hurricanes Games
The streaming options you have available to watch Carolina Hurricanes games will depend on where you’re located.
If you’re within the Hurricanes’ broadcast region – which is North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia – you should be able to receive Bally Sports South through dedicated streaming providers.
Out-of-market fans will need to sign up for ESPN+ instead. This should let you watch all NHL games, except for the nationally broadcast ones.
But if you’re in-market, like most fans usually are, here are the best ways to watch:
Fubo: Low-Price Option for Carolina Hurricanes Games
Fubo has become known for its sports coverage and includes RSNs (including Bally Sports South) in all of its plans.
If you’re within the coverage area, you’ll receive Bally Sports South automatically when you sign up for Fubo, which starts at $88.98/month.
This includes more than 150 channels, 1,000 hours of recording on a cloud-based DVR, and the ability to watch on up to 10 screens at once while at home (three while on the go).
More information is available in our full Fubo review.
DIRECTV STREAM: Top Way to Watch Carolina Hurricanes Online
Like Fubo, DIRECTV STREAM carries RSNs such as Bally Sports South, but only from its Choice plan and up.
The Choice plan starts at $99.99/mo, but this also includes TNT, so you can watch the Hurricanes’ nationally broadcast games as well.
DIRECTV STREAM comes with unlimited hours of cloud-DVR storage (up to nine months) and will let users watch on as many simultaneous screens as they like while at home (limited to three away).
Take a look at our complete DIRECTV STREAM review for further details.
Hulu + Live TV
Hulu + Live TV includes ESPN+ as part of its package and comes with ESPN and TNT, so out-of-market fans will be able to watch every regular season Hurricanes game with this one subscription.
In-market fans aren’t so lucky though, as it doesn’t include Bally Sports – meaning local fans will need to subscribe to Fubo or DIRECTV STREAM.
Hulu and ESPN+ are the only ways to watch the seven Hurricanes games that will only be available by streaming though, so it’s still worth considering if you want to watch every Carolina Hurricanes game.
Other Streaming Options
Canes fans not wanting a complete TV package can choose to subscribe directly to ESPN+ (if they’re out-of-market) or Bally Sports+ (if they’re in-market).
Bally Sports+ starts at $19.99/month and lets subscribers watch their local Bally Sports network at home or on the go.
Subscribing to ESPN+ directly (and not as part of the Hulu + Live TV and Disney+ bundle) starts at $10.99/mo.
It should be noted that neither of these options provides channels for the nationally broadcast Hurricanes games.
Devices to Livestream Carolina Hurricanes Games
Like most popular streaming services, Fubo, DIRECTV STREAM, and Hulu + Live TV can be watched on a majority of well-known platforms and devices.
These include:
- Amazon Fire TV
- Android Mobile
- Android TV-based smart TVs
- Apple TV
- Chromecast iOS (iPhone/iPad)
- Roku
- Samsung smart TVs
- Web Browsers
Fubo and Hulu also support LG and VIZIO smart TVs, plus the Xbox gaming system. And Hulu and ESPN+ work on PlayStations as well.
Bally Sports+ isn’t compatible with Chromecast, but does work with Xboxes, and should be available on more devices soon.
Our Choice
If you live outside the Carolina Hurricanes’ media market, ESPN+ is your best option to watch most games. To maximize your viewing experience, I recommend pairing it with Hulu + Live TV, which gives you access to ESPN+ along with all the national channels you need for complete coverage. For local fans within the market, Fubo is the go-to choice, offering Bally Sports South for regional broadcasts along with excellent streaming quality, cloud DVR, and a solid channel lineup. It’s a great option if you want reliable access to all your Hurricanes games without any hassle.
