The Dallas Stars started out as the Minnesota North Stars hockey team when they entered the league in 1967. They moved to Dallas for the 1993-94 season, immediately proving themselves by making the 1994 playoffs.
This success helped boost hockey’s popularity throughout Texas. Although they’re often overlooked elsewhere, the Stars have a celebrated history, with eight division wins, three conference wins, two Presidents’ Trophy wins, and they brought home the Stanley Cup in 1999.
After making it to the Stanley Cup Final again in 2020, fans are hopeful their team will make it all the way this season.
The Stars are a part of the Central Division in the Western Conference and play home games at the American Airlines Center.
What TV Channels Air Dallas Stars Games?
For local fans, most Dallas Stars’ games will air on Bally Sports Southwest (earlier called Fox Sports Southwest), available throughout Texas and most of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and eastern New Mexico.
Seventeen games will air on Bally Sports Southwest Extra (BSSW Extra). All games shown on Bally Sports Southwest or BSSW Extra will also be available on the Bally Sports app.
Bally Sports is available on Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM. Hockey fans can sign up directly with Bally Sports+, but this won’t provide coverage of the nationally broadcast or streaming-only games.
If you’re outside of the Bally Sports Southwest area, you’ll need ESPN+, either on its own or with Hulu. All fans will also need ESPN+ or Hulu to watch the Stars’ nationally broadcast games.
Twelve games will air nationally on ABC, TNT, and ESPN, with three only available via streaming services.

Fubo: Perfect for Devoted Sports Fans
Fubo (formerly called FuboTV) offers Bally Sports, ESPN, and ABC in its base (Pro) plan – all of the channels you’ll need to watch every Stars game except for TNT.
Fubo’s Pro plan comes with more than 150 channels, 37 of which are sports-focused, making it an ideal choice for all sports fans, not just those looking for NHL coverage.
Fubo also offers many add-ons such as the Sports Lite add-on (priced at $9.99/mo) which gives you NHL Network, MLB Network, and NBA TV channels.
A subscription costs $88.98 a month and includes up to unlimited cloud DVR storage on an unlimited number of screens.
More information is available in our Fubo review.
DIRECTV STREAM for Dallas Stars Games
DIRECTV STREAM has the best coverage of Regional Sports Networks (RSNs), including Bally Sports. This means Dallas Stars fans within the Bally Sports Southwest area should be able to stream the majority of games.
All of DIRECTV STREAM’s plans include ESPN and TNT, but you’ll need to sign up for the Choice plan to access Bally Sports. This usually costs $99.99 a month, though sometimes you can catch limited-time offers.
The Choice plan includes more than 105 channels and unlimited hours of cloud DVR storage.

Other Dallas Stars Streaming Options
Hockey fans not worried about other TV channels can subscribe directly to Bally Sports+. This provides access to live games, pre- and post-game shows, and more on selected platforms (such as your phone, tablet, or web browser).
YouTubeTV is an alternative to Hulu + Live TV, as it offers a similar service.
NHL fans can also try Sling TV’s orange plan for nationally broadcast games. This provides ABC, ESPN, and TNT, but no RSNs (such as Bally Sports).
Devices to Livestream Dallas Stars Games
Most streaming services, including those mentioned above – Fubo, DIRECTV STREAM, Hulu + Live TV, ESPN+, YouTubeTV, and Sling – provide apps for or are compatible with popular platforms and devices.
These include:
- Amazon Fire TV
- Android Mobile
- Android TV-based smart TVs
- Apple TV
- Chromecast

Our Choice
To catch every Dallas Stars game, I recommend Fubo for in-market fans and ESPN+ for those outside the region. Fubo offers an extensive channel lineup, including all the major networks like ESPN, ABC, and Bally Sports Southwest, which is crucial for watching local games. What stands out about Fubo is its unbeatable sports coverage, with over 150 channels and a solid DVR feature, perfect for recording games. For out-of-market fans, ESPN+ is your go-to service. It’s budget-friendly and includes all the national broadcast games, giving you complete access to every Stars match. Compared to competitors, both services are reliable, with top-notch streaming quality and great value for sports lovers.
