Week 10 Analysis: Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles
Will the Eagles (8-0) add another tally to their win total and remain undefeated? Most signs point to yes as they host the only team in the NFC East with a losing record in the Commanders (4-5).
Philadelphia, sitting atop the NFL Power Rankings at #1, is expected to have little difficulty in each of the next three weeks. They’ll have several easy opponents coming up after the Commanders — the Colts (3-5-1) and Packers (3-6) — before the schedule starts to toughen up again.
Philadelphia does not have much breathing room in the NFC East as both the Cowboys and Giants are 6-2. The Eagles play three games combined against them the rest of the way. They’ve played Dallas only once in a 26-17 win on Oct. 16.
Meanwhile, Washington (with a lowly power ranking of #25) is hoping that a stunning win here will help push it towards a playoff spot. The Commanders are only half a game behind the 49ers (4-4) for the final place in the NFC.
Washington also wants to avoid losing two straight. They lost a squeaker last Sunday, 20-17 vs Minnesota last Sunday.
However, one thing to consider is that Washington has gone 3-1 in its last four outings. Their only loss was to the team with the NFL’s second-best record at 7-1. So, perhaps a surprise result will occur in Philly.
Tonight’s matchup pits Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts against Taylor Heinicke, who looks to be replaced by Carson Wentz next week.
Hurts’ stats don’t sparkle — 12 touchdowns, 2 INTs, and a QB rating of 63.1 — but they are better than Heinicke’s. The Commanders replacement quarterback, has thrown 5 touchdowns, 3 INTs, and has a QBR of 42.8 over his 4-game stint as sub for Wentz.
That being said, Heinicke’s numbers still look better than Wentz’s (10 TDs, 6 interceptions, and a 33.0 rating) and with the starter sidelined, Heinicke may be eying tonight’s game as a way to make a case for keeping him on the field for Week 11.
