As I look at the regional sports network landscape in the United States, the NBC Sports Regional Networks stand out as the second-largest group behind Bally Sports. What makes the NBC Sports RSNs particularly interesting to me is their accessibility through streaming platforms. Unlike Bally Sports and most other regional sports networks, I can easily access NBC Sports RSNs through four different streaming services.
Seeing “not available in your area” or a blackout? Connect to another US location to unlock regional sports, news, and shows you already pay for. A streaming subscription is still required.

The NBC Sports Regional Networks trace their history back 1997 and what was then called Comcast SportsNet. But with the purchase of NBCUniversal by Comcast in 2011, the channels were eventually rebranded as NBC Sports in 2017.
Some of the channels themselves predate the Comcast SportsNet days by a number of years. For example, NBC Sports Boston got its start in 1981 as PRISM New England. Although it was a general entertainment channel, it was also the home of the Boston Celtics and the Hartford Whalers (later becoming the Carolina Hurricanes).
Additionally, three of the NBC Sports channels were once part of the Fox Sports Network, which became Bally Sports.
Only the Boston and Philadelphia channels offer much outside of their live game broadcasts. But the games are the main attraction for most viewers.
Here are the channels and their primary teams:
If you’re looking to stream NBC Sports Regional Networks, Fubo just gets it right. The channel lineup is packed with sports options, and everything I needed was there, including NBC Sports RSNs. Streaming quality? Spot on – no buffering drama, even during big games. It’s super simple to use, and it works on whatever you’ve got handy, from TVs to phones. Plus, the DVR is great for catching up later. I checked out DIRECTV and Hulu Live, but Fubo just clicked better for me – it’s a sweet spot of value and features for sports lovers. If local games are your jam, this is the way to go.
SportsNet New York is not part of the NBC Sports Regional Network. But it is associated with it because NBC Sports Group owns an 8% share in the channel. They are also often associated because traditionally, services that offered NBC Sports channels also offered SNY, but that is no longer true since YouTube TV dropped it.
In 2022, Monumental Sports & Entertainment purchased NBC Sports Washington. The following year, they rebranded it as Monumental Sports Network. The channel is much the same as it had been and continues to be the home of the Wizards (NBA) and Capitals (NHL). All the same services that offer NBC Sports Regional Networks also offer Monumental Sports Network.
NBC Sports Northwest shut down in 2021 after losing the broadcasting rights to the Portland Trail Blazers. It was effectively replaced by Root Sports Northwest. In addition to the Trail Blazers, Root Sports is home to the Seattle Mariners (MLB) and Seattle Kraken (NHL). It is only available from Fubo and DIRECTV.
