Editorial Policy

HotDog is focused on creating the most detailed and up-to-date information about streaming. We do this with a group of writers and editors who are experts in the field who follow it closely.

Article Creation

The process for creating new articles is involved but straightforward. Ideas come our team members who are always on the lookout for new things in streaming and beyond.

Any such article is given to a specific editor based on their areas of expertise (eg, American football or kid programming). They then create an outline and work with a writer to create the first draft. This normally involves at least a few rounds of revisions.

Once the first draft is completed, it is fact checked by an uninvolved editor or writer. After this, the editor publishes the article.

Article Maintenance

The process of getting a new article live can take weeks. But the effort involved is relatively small compared to the time we spend maintaining articles. This is because the streaming industry is fast-paced and pages can be quickly out-of-date.

We have a regular schedule for page updates. This depends on the page itself. For example, our NFL pages are generally updated weekly during the season. A page about a typical channel will be updated yearly — unless something notable has happened to it or we have heard from readers about necessary changes.

The update process is similar to the creation process. But there are two things we look at:

  1. Fact check all the existing text and remove anything obsolete
  2. Add new material based on recent news.

Quality Assurance

In both article creation and maintenance, we maintain strict quality standards:

  • Must include up-to-date information on pricing, channels, etc
  • All streaming features must be independently varified
  • All technical claims backed by internal testing or official documentation
  • Always provide at least two alternatives
  • Primary research must include internal testing
  • Streaming must be tested on multiple devices
  • Reviews made independently of business relationships
  • Always publish negative findings where relevant
  • Disclose testing conditions.

Authors

Every article on HotDog is the result of a group effort. As you can see on our Authors Page, everyone here has an extensive background with online streaming — as well as ancillary fields like VPNs, WiFi, hardware devices, and so on.

Conflicts of Interest

We make every effort to provide honest and useful information to our readers. But we are a business and we do make money from many of the products and services you see on our pages.

We strive always to be transparent about what we do. See our FTC Disclosure for a list of all the companies we have business relationships with.

Corrections

HotDog has spawned a great community of readers. They keep us abreast about industry changes and problems they are having. We encourage everyone to contact us any time with ideas or problems.

As mentioned above, we also learn about errors in our pages from readers. These are always updated on an expedited basis. We also correct pages based on press releases, news, and even rumor.

Our effort is always to correct out-of-date or inaccurate information as soon as possible.
