Texas Rangers Fans Need These Streaming Plans for All MLB Games

Just two seasons off their World Series win, the Texas Rangers are a popular team with fans all over the nation. I explain below how to watch all their games.

In a hurry? These services will let you watch the vast majority of Rangers games depending on location.

  • Fubo: Get 150+ channels including FanDuel Sports Southwest, home of the Rangers. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.
  • DIRECTV STREAM: Costs more than Fubo, but includes TBS, which airs a handful of regular season and playoff games. A 5-day free trial is now available for DIRECTV STREAM.
  • MLB.TV: Fans outside the Rangers media market can stream almost all Rangers games with this service.

The Texas Rangers, who represent the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, have had a storied history that has included World Series appearances and Nolan Ryan no-hitters. The Rangers were the 2023 World Series champion.

Rangers TV Channels

A considerable majority of Rangers games, most likely greater than 95%, are broadcast on FanDuel Sports Southwest. It is a regional sports network (RSN) that is available throughout much of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma as well as in portions of eastern New Mexico.

FanDuel Sports Southwest is also the home of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs as well as the NHL’s Dallas Stars. Availability depends on exactly where you are in the coverage area.

The vast majority of Rangers games are broadcast by FanDuel Sports Southwest. Those that aren’t are distributed by national TV channels and (increasingly) streaming services.

Nationally televised Texas Rangers games normally appear on FOX, ESPN, TBS, FOX Sports 1 (FS1), and MLB Network. Some games are streamed by ESPN+ (simulcast) and Apple TV+ (exclusive).

How to Watch the Texas Rangers Without Cable

You can take advantage of several ways to watch the Rangers play without paying for cable or satellite.

One of the most affordable ways to watch Rangers games is with an antenna. This works whenever Texas plays on network television, which includes any World Series games that the team is a part of. In 2024, there were 4 Rangers games that aired exclusively on FOX.

Streaming

Clearly, an antenna will not provide you with many Rangers games. To watch the vast majority of games, local fans need FanDuel Sports Southwest and others need MLB.TV.

Streaming Features

All these services allow you to stream on multiple devices at the same time. This probably isn’t as big an issue with MLB.TV given its relatively limited content. Similarly, the two live TV streaming services provide a DVR but MLB.TV does not. This probably doesn’t matter since it provides the same functionality as a DVR.

All three services support the majority of modern streaming devices: Amazon Fire TV, Android Mobile, Android TV-base smart TVs, Apple TV, Chromecast, iOS, Roku, Samsung smart TVs, and web browsers. Fubo and MLB.TV support other devices like the Xbox gaming system.

Everything You Need to Know About the Texas Rangers

The Rangers became the Lone Star State’s second major league team, having moved to Arlington from Washington in 1972. This was a decade after the Astros had played their first season in Houston.

However, Texas struggled through the next few decades, only making the playoffs three times between its founding and 2009, in 1996, 1998, and 1999. They lost to the New York Yankees at the first hurdle in each of those postseasons.

The 2010s were much better for the Rangers. That decade started with back-to-back American League pennants and resulted in five playoff appearances, in those two years, 2012, 2015, and 2016.

With that said, falling at the final stage, in the World Series, in 2010 and 2011 put a sour taste in the mouths of Rangers fans. This wasn’t helped by the other three playoff runs only lasting one round apiece.

In 2021, Texas finished with a 60-102 record, placing it in fifth place in the AL West division standings. This was the third-worst record in the majors. It was also the club’s worst since its second season in Arlington when they recorded a 57-105 mark.

The Rangers missed the postseason for the sixth straight season as they finished fourth in their division rankings with a 68-94 record in the 2022 regular season. However, 2023 was a perfect season for the Rangers as they were second in their division with a 90-72 record to make the playoffs. They beat the Rays, Orioles, and Astros on their amazing run to the World Series. They defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 to claim their first World Series in history.

The 2024 season was a disappoint with a record of 78-84, good enough for only 3rd place in a weak AL West. They did not make the playoffs.

The Rangers have played in just three stadiums since moving to Texas: Arlington Stadium (1972-93), Globe Life Park (1994-2019), and Globe Life Field (2020-present). During its time in the nation’s capital, it played in Griffith Stadium (1961) and RFK Stadium (1962-71).

Our Choice

Those who want to watch the Texas Rangers play regularly without a cable or satellite contract generally have a couple of options. If you are in Texas, Oklahoma, eastern New Mexico, Arkansas, or Louisiana, I recommend Fubo ($94.98/month) since it offers you access to FanDuel Sports Southwest as well as Space City Home Network (home of the Astros). Those elsewhere should sign up for MLB.TV.

FAQs

What radio stations broadcast Rangers games?

If you are looking to listen to today’s game and are in an area that is close to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, you can most likely get the broadcast on a local radio station. The Rangers Radio Network covers the vast majority of north Texas as well as down to San Antonio and in Alpine and El Paso. It also stretches into much of Oklahoma and nearby areas of Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, and New Mexico. You can also listen to the game on SiriusXM.

Is it possible to watch the Rangers for free?

Yes, you can watch the Rangers for free — with some caveats to consider. Those not in eastern New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma can periodically stream Rangers games thanks to the MLB.TV Free Game of the Day. Otherwise, if you own an antenna, you can watch the team play for free when it is featured on network television.
