I’ve found there are many ways to watch the Mountaineers games without a cable subscription. And I have all the information below.
In a hurry? Most West Virginia games appear on one of the ESPN channels. Some are found on CBS. And a lot are available through ESPN+.
- Hulu + Live TV: Provides 95+ live TV channels along with the Hulu on-demand library, Disney+, and ESPN+, an important distributor of Mountaineers games. Try the Hulu Live free 3-day trial.
- Fubo: Great service if you have a more general interest in sports with 150+ live TV channels. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.
- DIRECTV STREAM: Get 90+ channels that make canceling cable easy. A 5-day free trial is now available for DIRECTV STREAM.
Although its football team is very popular, it’s the basketball team that is the jewel of WVU sports. In 2024, the men’s team has been ranked just outside the top-25. But the women’s team has been inside the top-25 all season.
A member of the Big 12 conference, the West Virginia Mountaineers have a long history of success at the highest level of college basketball.
What Channels Are the Mountaineers Basketball Teams Showcased On?
The majority of West Virginia basketball games will be shown on the ESPN family of networks. These networks include ESPN2 and ESPNU. Also, roughly half of both the women’s and men’s matchups stream exclusively on ESPN+.
A couple of games appear on CBS and CBS Sports Network (CBSSN). If the Mountaineers make it to the NCAA Tournament, some of the men’s games will be on CBS. The rest will be on TNT, TBS, and truTV. The women’s games are all on ESPN channels.
How to Stream West Virginia Basketball
There are lots of options if you want to watch most Mountaineers games. But because so many games appear through ESPN+, Hulu + Live TV for $82.99/month is the obvious choice.

Streaming Features
All the live TV streaming services come with a cloud DVR. Most offer unlimited storage; the only exception is Sling TV, which provides 50 hours.
Sling TV also limits you to streaming on one device at a time. (But given the price, it is still worth checking out.) The other streaming services allow between 2 and unlimited simultaneous streams.
Apps are available for most streaming devices. This includes Amazon Fire TV, Android mobile, Android TV smart TVs, Apple TV, Chromecast, iOS mobile devices, Roku, and Samsung smart TVs. Apps are also available from some of the services for other smart TVs and gaming consoles.
WVU Basketball History and Current Status
Both the men’s and women’s Mountaineers basketball teams play in WVU Coliseum with a total capacity of 14,000. It is on the West Virginia University campus in Morgantown. And it is usually packed to capacity regardless of who the Mountaineers are matched against.
Men’s Basketball
With iconic figures in its past like Hot Rod Hundley and Jerry West, it’s a bit surprising that the Mountaineers have never won an NCAA title. The closest they have come was a one-point defeat to Cal in 1959. Since then, their best performance was a 2010 visit to the Final Four.
The men’s team has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 31 times and has won 13 conference tournament championships — none of them since they moved to the Big 12.
Longtime head coach Bob Huggins resigned after a drunk driving arrest. He was ultimately replaced by Drake head coach Darian DeVries.
Women’s Basketball
Arguably the best women’s team was 2013-14 but it was eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The best team in terms of March Madness was the 1991-92, which made it to the Sweet 16.
It is the second season with head coach Mark Kellogg and the team has done very well.
Our Choice
If you’re looking to catch all the West Virginia Mountaineers basketball action, Hulu + Live TV is the way to go. It gives you access to 95+ channels, including all the ESPN networks, which is where most of their games air. Plus, you get ESPN+ for those extra exclusive matchups, so you’re covered on all fronts. The streaming quality is solid, and the unlimited cloud DVR is a huge win—no more worrying about missing a game.
FAQs
How can I watch West Virginia women’s basketball?
If you have access to ESPN and its related channels, you will be able to watch the majority of contests featuring the West Virginia women’s basketball team. But as with the men’s basketball team, many games stream only on ESPN+ so you need to have access to both live channels and this service.
