Clemson Tigers vs Kentucky Wildcats

The 2023 Gator Bowl features the Clemson Tigers of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Kentucky Wildcats of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). These are two of the strongest conferences in the nation and should result in a good matchup.

The Tigers come into this game with an 8-4 record (4-4 in-conference). This put them 7th overall in the conference. But they ended the season strong with victories over ranked teams Notre Dame and North Carolina — ending close to or inside the top 25 ranking in most polls.

The Wildcats had a strong start to their season but struggled late to garner a 7-5 (3-5 in-conference) record. But they managed to win their last game away at No 10 ranked Louisville 38-31.

Clemson Tigers Personnel

Dabo Swinney is in his 16th season as the Tigers’ head coach where he has had great success. He is joined by offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and defensive coordinators Wes Goodwin and Mickey Conn.

Quarterback Cade Klubnik leads the Tigers’ offense with running backs Phil Mafah and Will Shipley, wide receivers Tyler Brown and Troy Stellato (Beaux Collins is transferring), and tight end Jake Briningstool.

On defense are linebackers Barrett Carter and Wade Woodaz (Jeremiah Trotter Jr will not play), defensive backs Khalil Barnes, Shelton Lewis, Avieon Terrell, Jalyn Phillips, and RJ Mickens (Nate Wiggins, Toriano Pride Jr, and Andrew Mukuba are moving on), and linemen TJ Parker, Tyler Davis, Ruke Orhorhoro, and Xavier Thomas.

Kentucky Wildcats Personnel

Mark Stoops is in his 11th season as head coach of the Wildcats. He took over a very weak team and has turned it around. With him are offensive coordinator Liam Coen and defensive coordinator Brad White.

Quarterback Devin Leary leads the offense with running back Ray Davis, wide receivers Dane Key, Tayvion Robinson, and Barion Brown, and tight end Jordan Dingle.

The Wildcats’ defense features linebackers D’Eryk Jackson, Trevin Wallace, and JJ Weaver, defensive backs Maxwell Hairston, Andru Phillips, Zion Childress, Ty Bryant, and Alex Afari Jr, and linemen Deone Walker, Josaih Hayes, Tre’vonn Rybka, and Octavious Oxendine.
