Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs Miami Hurricanes

The 2023 Pinstripe Bowl features Rutgers Scarlet Knights of the Big Ten Conference and Miami Hurricanes of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). These teams are reasonably well-matched and it should result in a good game.

The Scarlet Knights finished the season with a 6-6 record overall but only a 3-6 record in the Big Ten. That resulted in a fifth-place finish in the East Division of the Big Ten. But this season was the first since 2014 that the team even managed a 500 record.

The Hurricanes had a very similar season with a respectable 7-5 record overall but only 3-5 in the ACC. This put them 9th out of 14 teams. This is an improvement over last season but isn’t as good as the team has been in recent years.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Personnel

Greg Schiano has been the Scarlet Knights’ head coach for the last four years but he was also head coach from 2001 through 2011. He is joined by offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca and defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak.

Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt leads the Rutgers’ offense with running back Kyle Monangai, wide receivers Christian Dremel, JaQuae Jackson, Isaiah Washington, and Ian Strong, and tight end Shawn Bowman.

On defense are linebackers Deion Jennings, Mohamed Toure, and Tyreem Powell (questionable), defensive backs Robert Longerbeam, Eric Rogers, Flip Dixon, Shaquan Loyal, and Desmond Igbinosun (Max Melton will not play), and linemen Aaron Lewis, Isaiah Iton, Kyonte Hamilton, Jordan Thompson, and Wesley Bailey.

Miami Hurricanes Personnel

This is the second season with Mario Cristobal as head coach of the Hurricanes. He is joined by offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry.

Sophomore quarterback Jacurri Brown will lead the Hurricanes at the Pinstripe Bowl after Tyler Van Dyke transferred and Emory Williams fractured his left arm. He is joined by running backs Henry Parrish Jr and Mark Fletcher Jr, wide receivers Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George, and Colbie Young, and tight end Cam McCormick.

The Hurricanes’ defense features linebackers Francisco Mauigoa, KJ Cloyd, and Wesley Bissainthe, defensive backs Jaden Davis, Te’Cory Couch, and (potentially) Daryl Porter, and linemen Rueben Bain Jr, Jared Harrison-Hunte, and Branson Deen. It will be exciting to see who will win the David C. Koch MVP Trophy this year.
