What Channel Is Iowa Football On?

Iowa fans will need access to the channels airing Big Ten Conference games. In 2024, these are NBC, CBS, Big Ten Network (BTN), Fox, and Fox Sports (FS1). A Hawkeyes matchup could also be one of the Peacock or Paramount+ streaming exclusives, but these will be broadcast locally on NBC and CBS.

You may also want ESPN, as this is where Bowl games will air. The NCAA Championship football game will be on ABC.

If you are a big fan of MLB, NBA, or NHL, you should look closely at Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM. Both of them provide access to almost all of the RSNs that broadcast local team games.

Iowa Hawkeyes Football

The Iowa Hawkeyes are coming off an appearance in the Big Ten Championship Game and are hoping to do the same in 2024. That task will be a difficult one this year for three primary reasons:

  1. The conference has removed divisions, so being in the weaker West Division will no longer help Iowa get into the title game. Instead, the top two teams in the overall conference standings will get to play in that contest.
  2. The league has added four more teams, meaning there’s more competition for those two coveted spots.
  3. Iowa’s offense has been quite poor in recent years. For example, the team put up back-to-back goose eggs to end the 2023 season, falling to Michigan in the Big Ten Championship Game, 26-0, before getting outscored by Tennessee in the Citrus Bowl, 35-0.

2024 Hawkeyes Personnel

A change in leadership is providing Hawkeye fans with hope this year. Brian Ferentz, the son of head coach Kirk Ferentz, was the offensive coordinator, but he was let go in 2023. His replacement is Tim Lester, who served as Western Michigan’s head coach from 2017-2022.

Senior quarterback Cade McNamara will likely take the reins of the offense after recovering from a knee injury suffered in 2023. If he falters, junior Brendan Sullivan, a transfer from Northwestern, might take over. Otherwise, arguably the best player on this side of the ball will be senior tight end Luke Lachey.

Other than the forgettable last two games of the University of Iowa’s campaign last year, their defense was rock solid throughout 2023, only allowing more than 16 points once before those final matches. The defense is led by defensive coordinator Phil Parker, who was awarded the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year and Broyles Awards in 2023.

Most of the top defensive players from last season are returning. This includes the heart of the defense in linebackers Nick Jackson and Jay Higgins, both seniors. Higgins topped the Big Ten and ranked third nationally in tackles last year.

Behind them is a solid secondary with Quinn Schulte, Sebastian Castro, and Jermari Harris, all seniors, helping lead the way in that area of the field.

Iowa finished last season 24th in the Associated Press poll and 22nd in the Coaches poll. The Hawkeyes are expected to either have a top-25 season again or be just outside of the national rankings.

2024 Iowa Hawkeyes Football Schedule

The schedule opens, as is usual, with three non-conference games, although the middle one is the always-heated rivalry matchup against Iowa State for the Cy-Hawk Trophy. This will be on home ground at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. As far as Big Ten play goes, the opener on September 21 is against another rival in Minnesota, though that one is away. Home games with rivals Wisconsin and Nebraska will be played on November 2 and 29 respectively.

Are the Hawkeyes making a West Coast trip in 2024?

Yes, Iowa will make a West Coast trip in 2024, as the Big Ten conference has welcomed four teams from that part of the country. On November 8, the Hawkeyes will play UCLA at the Bruins’ home stadium, the Rose Bowl, in Pasadena. Another new Big Ten conference addition, 2023 national runner-up the Washington Huskies, will come to Iowa City to play the Hawkeyes on October 12.

Is this the lowest college football over/under ever?

The Iowa Hawkeyes–Nebraska Cornhuskers game in 2023 set the lowest over/under point total in modern college football history when the odds reached as low as 24.5 points. This record-breakingly low total was largely due to the expectation of a low-scoring game, given Iowa was known for having a good defense but a struggling offense that season.
