Which Channels Show UCLA Bruins Football Games in 2024?

As the Bruins have joined the Big Ten in 2024, they now fall under that Conference’s broadcast deal. This means games will air on CBS (sometimes CBS Sports), NBC, Fox (sometimes FS1), and the Big Ten Network, with some streaming exclusively on Peacock or Paramount+.

As CBS, NBC, and Fox are all network TV channels, you can watch the Bruins games broadcast on them for free with an antenna (if you’re within a coverage region). Fans wanting to watch every UCLA Bruins or Big Ten members’ game, or don’t want to set up an antenna, should choose a streaming service that includes BTN and FS1 as well.

UCLA is starting its tenure in the Big Ten after leaving the Pac-12 behind. In 2023, the Bruins finished 8-5 and with a victory in the LA Bowl over Boise State. DeShaun Foster is the team’s new head coach, while Eric Bienemy joins the staff as offensive coordinator. Ikaika Malloe will serve as the defensive coordinator for the upcoming campaign.

UCLA will face several big games this year, including road matchups against LSU and Penn State. They will also have home games against Oregon and USC that could determine whether they go to the postseason.

Ethan Garbers will take over at quarterback for Dante Moore who transferred to Oregon. Moore chose UCLA over Oregon last year and left the program, likely to serve as a backup to star Dillion Gabriel. Other key 2024 players for UCLA include corner Jaylin Davies, linebacker Kain Medrano, and wide receiver J Michael Sturdivant.

Although UCLA is unlikely to make a run at a national title, they have a decent chance at reaching six wins and a bowl game. If so, it will be the 39th postseason appearance in the school’s history. It would also be their third consecutive bowl appearance, tied for their longest streak over the past 40 years.

USC Trojans is unquestionably UCLA’s biggest rival, partially because the two teams are only separated by 10 miles — the two schools even shared a stadium until 1982. UCLA and USC have been rivals for decades, and now they are both members of the Big Ten it’s likely they’ll continue to square off for the Victory Bell on an annual basis. California is also classified as a key rival, but it’s unclear how often the Bruins will play them now that California is a member of the ACC.

Is UCLA a Good Football Team?

The Bruins have one claimed national title from 1954, and 19 conference titles. Their last title was in 1998 when they finished 8-0 in conference play. Because of a no-repeat rule, the Bruins did not get to play in the 1954 Rose Bowl despite being conference and national champions.

The team went through an especially rough patch between 2016-2020, recording five straight losing seasons and going 20-36. A new head coach, Chip Kelly, began turning the program around in 2018, posting 3-9, 4-8, and 3-4 records in his first three campaigns at the school. The Bruins went 8-4 in 2021, while their 2022 counterparts compiled a 9-4 mark, followed by 8-5 in 2023 for Chip Kelly’s final season.

Rose Bowl

Since 1982, UCLA has played its home games at the Rose Bowl, a facility 25 miles off its Los Angeles campus in Pasadena, and famous for the bowl game by the same name that’s played there.

The Bruins shared the Memorial Coliseum with USC prior to moving to the Rose Bowl. UCLA has an 11,700-capacity track and field facility on campus, at Drake Stadium, but that is too small for the crowds that the football team attracts.

Other UCLA Sports

UCLA has one of the nation’s top athletics departments, only trailing Stanford in total NCAA championships with 123 entering the 2024-25 school year. The last two were men’s volleyball (their 21st) and women’s water polo.

UCLA’s men’s basketball team is one of that sport’s most prestigious. It has secured the national championship trophy on 11 occasions, including 10 in a 12-year span from 1964-75, with the 11th coming in 1995. That squad, and UCLA’s women’s basketball and gymnastics and men’s and women’s volleyball teams, play at the historic Pauley Pavilion.

UCLA’s softball program is also highly revered within its sport, and those Bruins have won the Women’s College World Series 12 times, including four this century, in 2003, 2004, 2010, and 2019. The school’s other diamond sports team, its baseball squad, has one national title, claimed in 2013.

Two other teams have recorded double-digit title totals: men’s tennis (16) and men’s water polo (12). Behind softball, the women have their most championships in water polo (8) and gymnastics (7).

FAQs

Why is UCLA leaving the Pac-12?

Most view UCLA’s decision to leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten as financially based, since the television money in their new league will far surpass what the team would have earned in the Pac-12 (the conference they played in since 1959, with games airing on ESPN channels and ABC). That financial surplus is also expected to more than compensate for the much greater travel costs in the Big Ten.

The USC Trojans, Washington Huskies, and Oregon Ducks also moved from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten Conference in 2024. Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah moved to the Big 12. Cal and Stanford moved to the ACC. Only the Oregon State Beavers and Washington State Cougars are the only schools that remain. The Pac-12 Network has since been shut down.

How can I watch Arizona-UCLA online?

Arizona and UCLA are unlikely to play each other in 2024. Both used to be members of the Pac-12 Conference and would face each other each year but, as of the 2024 college football season, the UCLA Bruins have joined the Big Ten Conference and the Arizona Wildcats are now part of the Big 12 Conference.

Will there be a UCLA-Utah football game this year?

Similar to the situation with Arizona, the University of Utah football team used to play the Bruins every year, since they were in the Pac-12 Conference together. But with the Bruins now in the Big Ten and the Utes in the Big 12, the two teams are unlikely to play outside of an NCAA bowl game.
