Cincinnati Bengals Week 3

Cincinnati’s 2024 season resulted in a particularly disappointing performance, a 16-10 loss to the Patriots, a team that had opened its campaign ranked 31st in the NFL Power Rankings. And it gets no easier from here as a road trip to play Super Bowl champion Kansas City awaits on Sunday. If a second loss follows, it would mark the Bengals’ third straight 0-2 start to a campaign.

Also hurting Cincinnati was wide receiver Tee Higgins missing that first game because of a hamstring injury. It is uncertain if he will play against the Chiefs. On the defensive side, the Bengals are still poorly defending the run.

The Cincinnati Bengals are 0-2 going into Week 3.

If you are a fan of the Bengals who lives out-of-market far from Paycor Stadium in Ohio, you’ll find that there are few games that feature your team. Cincinnati Bengals Season Roundup

A year ago, Cincinnati started 1-3 with two of those losses by 21 or more points and appeared destined to have a considerable fall from the 12-4 record that the previous year’s team had posted. However, a four-game winning streak followed, but, with a 5-4 record, quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury. The team failed to make the playoffs.

However, finishing 9-8 despite everything that happened in 2023 is a positive sign of sorts, and the Bengals, led by head coach Zac Taylor, have aspirations of their fourth straight winning record and second Super Bowl trip in a four-year span.

Of course, Burrow will play a significant role in whether those hopes are realized. More to the point, a healthy Burrow will. Not only did he suffer that aforementioned injury, but he has also been the victim of appendix and calf issues that played roles in his and his team getting off to poor starts the last two seasons. (In 2022, Cincinnati started 0-2 and 4-4 en route to its 12-4 mark.)

That said, he obviously needs a strong supporting cast in order to experience significant successes, and it appears that he has that.

Also on the offensive side will be talented newcomers in tackle Trent Brown and tight end Mike Gesicki, both from the Patriots, and running back Zack Moss, who last played for the Colts. Meanwhile, wide receivers Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase are amongst those returning for another season in Cincy.

However, running back Joe Mixon has departed; he is now with the Texans.

Defensively, talented linebackers Germaine Pratt and Logan Wilson and ends Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard are back for another season with the Bengals. However, tackle D.J. Reader has departed for the Lions although he has been replaced with quality in the form of Sheldon Rankins, who left Mixon’s new home of Houston for Cincinnati. Another newcomer is safety Vonn Bell; he played for the Bengals from 2020-22 before going to Carolina in 2023.
