Miami Dolphins Week 3

Miami began the day learning that wideout Tyreek Hill and lineman Calais Campbell had been detained by local police over a minor traffic violation. Despite that, Hill managed to have over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown in Miami’s 17-14 win over Jacksonville. Devon Achane served as the main playmaker in the backfield going for exactly 100 yards from scrimmage and adding a rushing touchdown just before halftime.

The victory was critical for Miami as the Bills and Patriots also won, and the Dolphins play the Bills on Thursday in Miami.

Sporting a 1-1 record, the Miami Dolphins head into Week 3 of the season.

About the Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have not won a playoff game since the 2000 season, but hope to change that in 2024. Winning the AFC East Division title would help in making that a reality, an accomplishment Miami hasn’t secured since 2008. They came close last year, until a 2-3 finish allowed the Bills to roar past them to that top spot and ultimately a pair of home playoff games.

One of the changes the Dolphins made in the offseason to hopefully improve their future was the appointment of defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, who was most recently Baltimore’s assistant head coach and defensive line coach.

As far as player personnel on the defensive side of the ball goes, much of the focus will be on cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who has been a Pro Bowl honoree in each of the past seven seasons. Also essential for Miami’s ability to stop opposing offenses will be the expected consistent performances from defensive tackle Zach Sieler. Linebackers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb, if healthy, should provide quality stability as well.

Miami also needs a healthy quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to ensure their run towards that division title and playoff successes. He led the league in passing yards a year ago with 4,624, after suffering health-related issues throughout his 2022 campaign. In fact, his passing yardage has increased every season since he was drafted fifth overall out of Alabama in 2020.

One of his biggest targets in 2024 is expected to be wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who led the NFL in receiving yards in 2023 with 1,799, which accounted for nearly 40% of Tagovailoa’s passing yards.

Meanwhile, head coach Mike McDaniel returns for his third year in Miami.

Although it has been several years since Miami has won a playoff game, the team still has a rich history of winning. They were the only team to last an entire regular and postseason undefeated when they went 14-0 in 1972. The Dolphins also won the Super Bowl in 1973 and AFC titles in 1971, 1982, and 1984.

Larry Csonka, Dan Marino, and Ricky Williams are among the several notable players in Dolphin history. Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas are also players who have made a big impact on the franchise and are in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Over the last 40 years, the Dolphins and Bills have been bitter rivals. The rivalry has been renewed in recent years thanks to the success of both franchises after decades toiling in mediocrity. It started when the Dolphins won every game against Buffalo during the 1970s.

The Miami Dolphins LOST the Super Bowls in 1982 and 1984. You should fix that.

<<How many championships has the Miami Dolphins won? The Miami Dolphins have won a total of five Super Bowl Championship games and five AFC Championship games. Coach Don Shula led the Dolphins to their first three Super Bowl titles in 1971, 1972, and 1973. In 1982 and 1984, the Dolphins went on to defeat the then Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVII and the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XIX. In addition, the Dolphins have captured a total of 13 AFC Eastern division championships.

Yikes! I think someone was confused about AFC Championship and Super Bowl. Thanks for pointing it out. It’s fixed!
