Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video
Being an NFL fan has become a little more complicated in the last few years, and now you can’t watch every game with cable alone — many games are streaming only.
Amazon Prime Video has become the home of TNF, airing one preseason and 16 regular season matchups. While it won’t air any playoff games, Prime Video is the exclusive broadcaster for Thursday Night Football.
How to Watch TNF
If you have an Amazon Prime subscription, you already have Prime Video. Otherwise, see our Amazon Prime Video review for all you need to know.
Once you’re all signed up, just open the Prime Video app on your preferred device at game time (or earlier, if you want all the pre-game chit-chat).
A major benefit to watching football on Prime Video is that Amazon’s X-Ray feature shows stats and lets you watch replays from within the game. These features aren’t available on all devices, but they are optimized for Amazon Fire TV.
Games will also be streamed live on Twitch, the Amazon-owned live-streaming service, with options to interact with other viewers (like a giant virtual tailgate party).
Don’t worry, hometown fans — your local network affiliate will still air the Thursday night primetime games your team is playing in.
For example, the NFL Week 5 matchup between the Buccaneers at Falcons will be shown on local stations in both Tampa Bay and Atlanta. Check your local listings for details.

About Thursday Night Football
Depending on how you look at it, Thursday Night Football began back in 1978, when it was an occasional extension of Monday Night Football. The weekly branded show didn’t start until the November 3, 2006 Thanksgiving game featuring the Denver Broncos at the Kansas City Chiefs.
At the time, this was mainly an effort to transfer part of the weekly viewership to a then-young NFL Network. The channel remained TNF’s primary home until the 2022 season, although it shared games with Amazon Prime and Fox for many weeks.
Starting in 2022, Prime Video became the home of Thursday Night Football. NFL Network went back to a lesser role, airing preseason as well as a smattering of other regular season games like the NFL International Series.
Thursday Night Football Announcers
TNF games feature the iconic announcer Al Michaels, formerly of Sunday Night Football, for play-by-play, and Kirk Herbstreit for color commentary. Kaylee Hartung will be reporting from the sidelines.
Charissa Thompson hosts the pregame and postgame shows. She’s joined by Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tony Gonzales, Richard Sherman, and Andrew Whitworth for analysis.
Taylor Rooks will be on hand for feature reporting, Michael Smith for news analysis, and Terry McAulay for rules clarifications during the game.
Miguel Gurwitz and Rolando Cantú cover TNF en Español.
Thursday Night Football Schedule
Thursday Night Football is now primarily the property of Amazon Prime Video. The kickoff time for most games is .
Only one preseason game streams on Prime. All the games air on Thursdays but there is one on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
