Little League Baseball World Series

The championship series was first played in 1947 at Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Originally only teams in Pennsylvania played. Over the years more teams have joined from all over the United States and and eventually outside of the United States.

Panama, Canada, and Hawaii (while still a US territory) were the first Little Leagues outside of the United States to play. The Little League World Series is currently being played by teams of boys and girls from all 50 states in the United States and 28 countries outside the United States.

Some of the countries that have won the championship include:

  • Curaçao — 1 win (2004)
  • Japan — 11 wins (1967, 1968, 1976, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017)
  • Mexico — 3 wins (1957, 1958, 1997)
  • South Korea — 3 wins (1984, 1985, 2014)
  • Taiwan/Chinese Taipei — 17 wins (1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996)
  • Venezuela — 2 wins (1994, 2000)

International teams have won the Championship 37 times with Taiwan winning the most times, that is 17. Teams from the United States have also won 37 times, 7 of which were by the team from California.

Out of the more than 16,000 games played in several countries, only 16 teams have traditionally participated in the Little League World Series tournament to win the World Championship. This has been increased to 20 starting in 2022.

The tournament always takes place at the Volunteer Stadium and the Howard J Lamade Stadium.

FAQs

How can I watch college baseball and the College World Series?

College baseball games are mostly on the ESPN networks — ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC, and ACC. The cheapest way to get the ESPN channels is Sling TV. Depending on the school’s conference, games may also be on Big Ten Network (on most streaming services) or Pac-12 Network (only on Sling and FuboTV). Some NCAA ballgames are exclusively on ESPN+, some are on FloSports, and some are on regional networks that only service the local area.

The College World Series is on the ESPNs — see our guide for watching the whole thing!
