All About the Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins have been in existence since 1901. They spend the first 60 years of that span having been spent in the nation’s capital as the Washington Senators.

The seasons that are most treasured by this franchise occurred in 1924, 1987, and 1991. Washington’s ace pitcher Walter Johnson helped lead the Senators to the first of those titles. The 1987 and 1991 Twins both claimed seven-game World Series wins, over the St Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves.

The Twins went through a low period immediately following their most recent title, failing to qualify for postseason play from 1992 to 2001. But they were back in contention from 2002 to 10, recording eight winning marks and six postseason berths in those nine years.

Their best playoff run during this period occurred in 2002. Minnesota lost to the Anaheim Angels in the American League Championship Series.

Another down period followed, but the franchise has played well since 2017. They’ve made the playoffs three times during that period (2017-2021), albeit all short stints, losing in the first round that they participated each time. However, 2021 was not a solid season as the Twins went 73-89 to finish fifth in the AL Central standings, their worst record since 2016.

2022 was another poor season for the Twins as they finished with a 78-84 (.481) losing record to finish third in the AL Central rankings. They failed to make the postseason for the second consecutive season.

Fortunately, Twins’ 2023 campaign was a welcomed success. They managed a winning record of 87-75 to clinch their ninth AL Central Division title. The Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 in the Wild Card Series to end their 18-game postseason losing streak. However, they were eliminated by the Houston Astros in the AL Division Series.

Since 2010, the Twins have played their home games at the Target Field.

FAQs

What channel is the Minnesota Twins game on tonight?

In most cases, tonight’s Minnesota Twins game will be on Bally Sports North, a regional network that was known as Fox Sports North before the 2021 season. This channel can be generally accessed anywhere in Minnesota as well as in North Dakota and South Dakota and areas of Iowa and Wisconsin that are near the states’ borders with Minnesota. Conversely, nationally broadcast games will be on Fox, FS1, ABC, ESPN, TBS, or MLB Network.

What radio station is the Minnesota Twins game on today?

The Treasure Island Baseball Network broadcasts Minnesota Twins games throughout much of this region. If you are located here, you will likely be close enough to at least one of the 81 stations on that network to be able to tune into the game. Radio coverage is extensive in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, moderate in Iowa, and limited in Wisconsin. The network’s flagship station is Minneapolis’ 830 WCCO. You can also listen to the game on SiriusXM.

How many World Series have the Minnesota Twins won?

The Minnesota Twins had a solid five-year run from 1987-91, claiming two World Series titles in that span. Interestingly, the 1987 and 1991 World Series are two of just three Fall Classics in which the home team won every game. Fortunately for the Twins, they held home-field advantage in both of those World Series. The franchise also won the 1924 World Series, when it was the Washington Nationals/Senators.

How can I watch the Minnesota Twins game on my phone?

The only streaming services that offer in-market access to Bally Sports North and its live Minnesota Twins broadcasts are Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM. However, those located outside of its blackout region can instead subscribe to MLB.TV and watch the team’s games on the MLB app. That blackout area includes all of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and a portion of Wisconsin.

How can I stream Minnesota Twins games for free?

Unfortunately, most Minnesota Twins games cannot be streamed for free. However, MLB.TV offers a Free Game of the Day to those not in either team’s blackout area, and about one MLB game a week is streamed on YouTube with no blackout restrictions. Of course, an antenna will grant you television access to games on Fox or ABC.

What additions have the Twins made to their roster this offseason?

Manager Rocco Baldelli’s roster got some additions from free agency with Carlos Santana, Jay Jackson, and Josh Staumont signing as free agents on one-year contracts. Anthony DeSclafani and Justin Topa were traded from Seattle with infielder Jorge Polanco going the other way. Also, Jeff Brigham and Brian O’Keefe were signed to minor league contracts.

This adds to a roster that includes pitchers Pablo Lopez, Chris Paddack, and Caleb Thielbar, infielders Carlos Correa, Alex Kirilloff, and Royce Lewis, outfielders Max Kepler and Willi Castro, and designated hitter Byron Buxton.

How did the Minnesota Twins do in the playoffs last year?

The Twins defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card round, 2-0. They went on to lose 1-3 to the Houston Astros in the Division Series.
