Out-of-market games are simply those that don’t feature the local team. In the case of the Atlanta Hawks, most games are out-of-market if you are not in the greater Georgia region.
The exception is when the Hawks play a game against your local team. If you live in Illinois and they play the Bulls, that would be an in-market game and would likely air locally on the Bulls regional sports network (RSN), NBC Sports Chicago.
NBA League Pass is the primary tool for watching these out-of-market games. To continue our example, it would air this Hawks-Bulls game to fans everywhere other than Georgia and Illinois.
Out-of-Market Atlanta Hawks Games Options
There are various ways to watch out-of-market Hawks games.
Most Hawks fans don’t feel the need to watch all 82 games of the regular season. But 18 of these games will be broadcast nationally on ESPN (5), NBA TV (10), or TNT (3). If the Hawks make it that far, all of their playoff games will also appear on national channels.
The following streaming services allow you to watch all these nationally televised games:
- Sling TV: The Sling Orange plan gives you access to 8 of these games for $40.00/mo. You can add NBA TV and a dozen others with Sports Extra for $11/mo more. (Sling TV review)
- DIRECTV STREAM: Get all these national channels along with the best selection of RSNs in the industry. (DIRECTV STREAM review)
- YouTube TV: Provides all the national channels to watch these games.
NBA League Pass
As with NFL Sunday Ticket and MLB.TV, there is NBA League Pass — the out-of-market package for pro basketball fans. With it, you can watch out-of-market Atlanta Hawks games throughout the regular season either through NBA.com or the NBA app that runs on most devices.
There are three subscription types: NBA League Pass ($99.99/yr), NBA Team Pass ($89.99/yr), and League Pass Premium ($129.99/yr). All three are roughly the same except that Team Pass would only give you access to Atlanta Hawks games. For the price, it’s probably better to get League Pass. See our review for complete details.
In addition to out-of-market games,, you also get replays of nationally televised games (after 3 hours) and locally blacked-out games (after 3 days).
League Pass is not a complete service. Most fans will also want national and local channels. You can get NBA League Pass through these live TV streaming services: Sling TV, DIRECTV STREAM, and YouTube TV.
FuboTV also offers NBA League Pass as an add-on for $14.99/mo. It just doesn’t offer TNT, which is a bit of a problem during the playoffs.
Every cord-cutter should be using a VPN. They are powerful tools that solve many issues you face on a daily basis. They don’t provide content, however. They simply allow you to stream the games you have the rights to. But this is often something you need a VPN to do.
But remember: you still need to find where the game is streaming. VPNs are streaming tools, not streaming services.

Other Ways to Watch Out-of-Market NBA Games
There is a long tradition of visiting friends to watch important games. In fact, Super Bowl parties are such a big thing that there are news stories about them.
Similarly, you can always watch Hawks games if you have a well-connected friend and family member. Or you might check out a local sports bar, although they do tend to focus more on local games.
Streaming Devices for Out-of-Market Hawks Games
The streaming devices you can use to watch Atlanta Hawks games will depend on the service you use. But most of them support all the devices you know: Amazon Fire TV/Firestick, Android mobile, Apple TV, Chromecast, iOS (iPhone, iPad), Roku, and Samsung smart TVs. Most also support gaming devices and other smart TVs.
Far-flung Atlanta Hawks fans have a few options for watching games. For most, we recommend Sling TV with the Sports Extra and NBA League Pass add-ons. But if you want it all, we recommend DIRECTV STREAM.
Can I watch out-of-market Atlanta Hawks Games with Hulu + Live TV?
You can watch the Atlanta Hawks games that appear on ESPN and TNT with Hulu + Live TV. It’s a great service that includes ESPN+ and Disney+ in its base package for $69.99/mo. But it really isn’t the best service for Hawks fans since it doesn’t offer NBA TV or NBA League Pass. This means you will necessarily miss some regular- and post-season games.
