For more than a hundred years, the men’s and women’s Musketeer teams of Xavier University in Ohio have built a solid basketball legacy in the NCAA. Since 1920, the Musketeers have competed at the regional and national levels with just one break during World War II that lasted two seasons.

The Xavier basketball program did not make sports news headlines when the popularity of the NCAA tournament exploded in the mid-1960s. But it did when the Musketeers started making the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight brackets in the 1990s.

They have gotten considerable attention over the last two decades with the top draft selection of players such as David West, Derrick Brown, and Jordan Crawford, who have shone in the NBA.

TV Channels to Watch Xavier Musketeers Basketball

Xavier University is part of the Big East Conference, which was revamped in 2013 to make it more competitive, so the Musketeers routinely play against major college teams such as Villanova, Seton Hall, and the mighty Georgetown.

The Big East Conference enjoys solid television coverage from various cable, broadcast, and streaming networks, and this gives Musketeer fans various options to watch all games. You can count on being able to watch Xavier games even when they are played outside of the Big East or the NCAA tournament. The only exception would be exhibition games scheduled before the season starts in November because those are seldom televised.

Coverage of the men’s Musketeers basketball team is provided by the following:

Coverage of the women’s Musketeers basketball team is provided by the following:

Most Musketeers games can be streamed as long as viewers are subscribed to platforms that carry the channels listed above. Some exceptions may apply when regional or national networks restrict their broadcasts. But that only applies to a few games in 2023.

Xavier University Musketeers Basketball

As previously mentioned, the Musketeers have represented the Xavier basketball program for more than a century. The lady Musketeers played at the varsity and intramural levels before the 1970s, but they started intercollegiate competition in 1971. Between the men’s and women’s teams, the combined record of NCAA tournament appearances for the Musketeers totals 28.

Since the year 2000, the Musketeers play home games at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, which has the capacity to accommodate more than 10,000 fans.

In 2009, the Musketeers program was ranked among the top 20 most valuable NCAA schools by Forbes magazine. A year later, Xavier University was recognized by the NCAA for its record in balancing athletics programs with high academic performance.

When Xavier participated in the Atlantic 10 tournaments prior to 2013, the men’s team was able to accumulate four championship trophies. In the Big East Conference, the Final Four bracket of the NCAA tournament has proved elusive for the Musketeers, but their respective records are gradually improving.

The most established rivalry for the Musketeers comes from the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.

Xavier Musketeers Men’s Basketball

The Musketeers are currently in the second era under coach Sean Miller, who previously led the team to the Sweet Sixteen bracket twice, and to the Elite Eight once before 2009.

Miller returned in 2022 with the explicit challenge of making the Final Four with strong players such as Souley Boum (points leader), Zach Freemantle (rebounds), Colby Jones (assists/steals). Jack Nunge, Adam Kunkel, Jerome Hunter, and Desmond Claude round out the team.

They are currently in the top-25 of the NCAA rankings.

Xavier Musketeers Women’s Basketball

Melanie Moore, a former player with the Siena College Saints, has coached the lady Musketeers since 2019, but she has not been able to achieve a winning season yet.

The last time the Xavier women’s team entered the NCAA tournament was 2011, but things are looking up thanks to the development of players such as Megan Harkey, a 6’6″ junior who can play both the center and forward positions with ease.

Wrapping Up

When comparing Xavier University to other big schools in the Big East Conference, the Musketeers have pretty decent broadcast, cable, and streaming coverage. The number of channels and streaming networks that carry Musketeer games will likely increase when the team makes the Final Four, and this could happen in the next few NCAA tournaments.

We recommend Fubo for Xavier basketball fans. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.

FAQs

What is the Big East Digital Network (BEDN)?

In 2014, the Big East Conference launched a video production platform covering more than 200 collegiate sports events. Years later, BEDN picked up SoFi as a major sponsor, and this is when it moved to the FloSports streaming platform, which you can access through the web browser or mobile apps. FloHoops is where you can stream most lady Musketeer games.

Why are the Musketeers in the Big East Conference?

The original Big East featured seven Catholic universities, but Xavier played in the Atlantic 10 until 2013. Considering the profile of the basketball programs in this conference, the Musketeers are a good fit. But this goes far beyond basketball to geographic, cultural, and religious considerations.

How do I go about watching other college basketball teams?

We have guides for many NCAA teams that show you how to watch:
