Wake Forest vs Missouri

Wake Forest University and the University of Missouri will play a compelling match-up at this year’s Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa, Florida. The two more prominent schools come into the game with comparable records, as Wake Forest finished 7-5 and Missouri finished 6-6.

Wake Forest features an exciting slew of players, including quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman threw for an impressive 3,421 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions this year, and he firmly has pro potential.

On Missouri’s sideline, quarterback Brady Cook leads the offensive attack. Cook threw for 2,509 yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions on the year, which puts him in range statistically with the typical big-school starting quarterback.

The keys to the game will be if Wake Forest’s passing game can make headway into an average Missouri secondary. On the other side of the field, can a decent Missouri air game effectively combat a weaker Wake Forest secondary?

With the passing games being so robust, it makes sense that there will be plenty of points, as either team will take to the air the moment they are down on the scoreboard. The over/under line is 63 points, which equates to around 30 points per team.

Regarding who will win the game, the raw data suggests Wake Forest, who seems a touch more potent on paper. Still, recent game performances show Wake Forest in decline, as they are losers of four of their past five games. Missouri might have the weaker overall body of work, but they have won three of their last five games.

So, can a hot Missouri team beat a more talented but struggling Wake Forest squad? Most predictions think the game will be close but that Wake Forest will edge out Missouri.

It should be a quarterback battle, and Wake Forest has the better one. So it makes sense that Wake will pull ahead at the end of a back-and-forth battle where Missouri is constantly chasing after Wake Forest. Time will tell.
