    Louisville Cardinals Football

Louisville’s football program started in 1912. And it has been successful. The Cardinals have won a total of 8 conference championships. But those conferences have changed over the years. They have won the Missouri Valley Conference, Conference USA, and Big East.

The team is currently in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), which it joined in 2014. Although they have had strong teams, they have yet to win a championship in the ACC.

The school plays its football games at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium, also known as Cardinal Stadium. It can hold more than 60,000 fans when at full capacity.

    2023 Louisville Football Schedule

The preseason rankings have Louisville in the middle of the ACC. The team has struggled over the past few seasons under head coach Scott Satterfield. He moved to Cincinnati this year and has been replaced by former Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm.

Brohm was the starting quarterback for the team for two seasons starting in 1992 and previously quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach from 2003-08.

In the last few years, the Cardinals have struggled but the hope is that Brohm will return the team to the strengths of the Bobby Petrino and Charlie Strong eras.

Quarterback Jack Plummer and wide receiver Jamari Thrash have transferred to Louisville to play their last seasons of eligibility. Jawhar Jordan returns as running back after rushing for 815 yards and 4 touchdowns last year.

Here is the complete U of L schedule matchups with kickoff times and TV channels (where available):

    FAQs

Who are some of Louisville’s most famous student-athletes?

Lamar Jackson played quarterback for the school until 2016 and was chosen in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. He is currently the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens. Johnny Unitas played for the school during the 1950s and is the only player in Louisville football history to have his number retired.

    Who are Louisville’s biggest rivals?

Throughout its history, Louisville’s biggest rival has been the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Although they aren’t in the same conference, the two schools often play each other in football. And the games are generally close contests despite the fact that the two schools aren’t always evenly matched. In most years, the Louisville football team tends to outclass Kentucky’s football team.

Louisville also has rivalries with the Memphis Tigers and the Cincinnati Bearcats, which features The Keg of Nails trophy.

Has Louisville ever been in the College Football Playoff?

Louisville has never competed in the College Football Playoff (CFP) but this is not surprising given that the event only started in 2014. The last time the Cardinals played at that level was back in 2006 when they went 11-1 — losing only to Rutgers in a close away game. In the postseason, they beat Wake Forest in the Orange Bowl 24–13.
