Oklahoma Sooners Football

The Oklahoma Sooners used to be members of the Big 12 Conference, but that changed this season when they transferred to the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Oklahoma didn’t have the season that they were hoping for in 2023 after losses to Kansas and Oklahoma State relegated the team to an Alamo Bowl appearance. The 2024 season is the first for the Sooners as members of the SEC, and head coach Brett Venables will be looking to bounce back strong.

The SEC portion of the 2024 schedule will provide tough tests including games against Tennessee and Alabama. Oklahoma goes on the road to take on Ole Miss, Missouri and LSU in games that could determine where the Sooners play in the postseason.

As with any successful team, the quarterback is going to be the most important player on the roster. Fortunately for Oklahoma, they have Jackson Arnold, who is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the nation.

During the program’s history, Oklahoma has won 50 conference titles and seven national titles. Their most recent conference title came in 2020 while their most recent claimed national title was earned in 2000. In 2003, they lost in the BCS title game to LSU but were named as unofficial national champions by one pollster.

Oklahoma’s biggest rivalry is against Texas, and each year, the two teams meet in a game called the Red River Shootout. The game will be played this year on Oct. 12 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Texas is currently ranked fourth in the nation, which means a win could also help Oklahoma’s hopes of making the postseason.
