What Channels Broadcast Notre Dame Football Games?

Notre Dame home games are primarily broadcast on NBC, which has long held exclusive rights to those contests. However, road games are showcased on a number of channels, including ABC, CBS, Fox, and ACC Network (ACCN). One game for this season (vs Louisville on September 28th) is streaming exclusively on Peacock.

As an independent, the Fighting Irish routinely play teams from the Big Ten. They also have an informal alliance with the ACC that sees it play a game or two each year against teams from that conference. And it’s not uncommon to see Notre Dame play at least one game a year against one of Army, Navy, or Air Force.

Notre Dame Athletics is in the ACC for sports other than football. So their television appearances for basketball are more typical of other ACC teams: ESPN, ESPN2, and ACC Network.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football

Established in 1887, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program of the University of Notre Dame is perhaps the most iconic in the nation. Although the team plays most of its home games at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana, it has also participated in a series of neutral site games called the Shamrock Series.

The Fighting Irish have won at least 10 games in six of the past seven seasons, claiming nine in the other. That nine-win campaign came in 2022, Marcus Freeman’s first as Notre Dame’s head coach and second with the program overall.

The Fighting Irish finished 2023 ranked 14th in both major polls, and many believe that they will be a top-10 program this year and take part in the College Football Playoff with the ability to make some noise once there, possibly even win the school’s first national championship since 1988.

There will be many changes on offense, but included are positive ones, such as the bringing aboard of quarterback Riley Leonard, who played in 20 games for Duke the past two seasons, and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, who most recently served in that role at LSU.

I believe we have the personnel around Riley Leonard to make sure he’s successful.

Also expected to contribute on the field will be running backs Jadarian Price and Jeremiyah Love and tight end Mitchell Evans.

Calling the shots off the field on the defensive side will be third-year defensive coordinator Al Golden. His unit is coming off an impressive 2023, in which it ranked in the top five nationally in total defense. A couple of its top returners include defensive tackle Howard Cross III, cornerback Benjamin Morrison, and safety Xavier Watts.

There will be a newcomer at kicker for the Fighting Irish with Mitch Jeter, who converted 23 of his 25 field goal attempts with South Carolina in 2023, expected to take that role.

Notre Dame’s likely toughest regular-season games this season will be its opener, a trip to Texas A&M, and a home matchup with Florida State in November.

FAQs

Who is Notre Dame’s biggest rival?

Notre Dame has many rivals throughout the United States. Each year, the school will typically take a trip to California to play Stanford or USC, and in some years, they will play both schools. Closer to home, Notre Dame would likely consider Purdue one of its biggest rivals.

Given its association with the ACC, the Fighting Irish have played in several close games with Clemson over the past several seasons. In fact, Notre Dame upset Clemson during the 2020 regular season.

Why are the Fighting Irish not aligned with a conference?

Notre Dame has been an independent team in football throughout much of its existence. This is because the school believes that it is a viable national title contender without having to join a conference. It is also wary of giving up games against Stanford, USC, and other schools that it wouldn’t be able to play if it were forced to devote much of its season to playing conference opponents.

Note that the school did join the ACC in 2020 to ensure that it had a full schedule of opponents. This doesn’t apply to the football team but it does for other sports such as basketball.

Is Notre Dame football on Hulu?

Yes, Notre Dame football games can be streamed on Hulu through its Live TV plan (costing $76.99/mo). The plan includes channels that broadcast Notre Dame games: ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, ESPN, and ACC Network. Hulu + Live TV comes with unlimited cloud DVR storage (for up to 9 months) and simultaneous streaming on up to two devices.
