Brazil vs. Switzerland: Team Information

As of October 6, 2022, Brazil is the number 1 ranked FIFA team, and they’ve won the FIFA Cup five times. They’re also the only team to have won on four continents. Brazil is favored to win the entire competition, but Switzerland shouldn’t be counted out. The Swiss team is known for their crafty playing style and stubborn endurance, and they’re currently ranked 15th in the world.

Team Brazil

• Nickname: Selecao Canarinha
• Coach: Adenor ‘Tite’ Bacchi
• Captain: Thiago Silva
• Top Scorer: Edson ‘Pele’ do Nascimento (77)
• Most Caps: Marcos ‘Cafu’ de Morias (142)

With 4-1 odds to win the 2022 World Cup and often considered the greatest soccer team of all time, Brazil will be a challenging match for every team they face. The team’s most recent cup win came in 2002, and they’re hoping to end their 20-year drought.

During the Cup qualifying games, Brazil was unbeaten, scoring 45 goals. They conceded only five goals, demonstrating their readiness to defend their position and play at their best. However, they’ve been knocked out by strong European teams before, and their match with Switzerland will be telling regarding their future success.

Watch For:

• Thiago Silva: Captain of the team, Silva is known for his extremely strong defense and superb leadership.
• Neymar da Silva Santos Junior: With 75 goals and 121 caps, this veteran player is considered one of the best in the world.

Other Notable Players

• Alisson Becker (Goalkeeper, Liverpool)
• Marcos ‘Marquinhos’ Correa (Defender, Paris St. Germain)

Although they’re not ranked as high as Brazil, Switzerland is predicted to be one of the teams that could cause an upset. With a strong head coach in Yakin and a solid team of players, Switzerland is hoping to use their incredible defense, well-thought-out tactical plans, and exceptional teamwork to propel them to a win.

Watch For:

• Murat Yakin: Taking over for one of Switzerland’s most effective coaches, Yakin is relaxed but driven.
• Yann Sommer: This young goalkeeper is a rising star, and he finished a recent match with 19 saves.

Other Notable Players

• Ricardo Rodriguez (Defender, Torino)
• Granit Xhaka (Midfielder, Arsenal)
• Xherdan Shaqiri (Midfielder, Chicago Fire)
• Haris Seferovic (Forward, Galatasaray)
