Senegal will be making its third appearance at a World Cup final when it begins play in Qatar this November. The country was able to qualify by defeating Egypt in the final round of the CAF tournament. Although the two sides tied 1-1 on aggregate goals through two games, Senegal defeated Egypt in a penalty shootout following the second game.

The Teranga Lions also qualified for the event in 2002 and 2018 and made history in both of those appearances. In 2002, the country advanced to the quarterfinals, which is the farthest the team has ever gotten at soccer’s most important tournament.

In 2018, Senegal became the first team to be eliminated because of the Fair Play rule. The rule was implemented just prior to the 2018 event in Russia, and it stipulates that any tie that exists after traditional tiebreakers have been exhausted will be broken based on the number of yellow cards each team received during group play.

After finishing tied with Japan after the group stage, Senegal was denied entry to the knockout phase because it had accumulated more yellow cards than the Japanese side. As you might expect, the teams played to a 2-2 draw in their group match in Russia.

Senegal enters this tournament ranked 18th in the world, which is 26 spots ahead of Ecuador and 32 spots ahead of hosts Qatar. Senegal will play both of these teams during Group A play. It will also play the strong Netherlands team, which is ranked 8th in the world according to FIFA.

Longtime Senegal player and coach Aliou Cissé leads the national team.

Papa Bouba Diop is one of Senegal’s most productive players at the World Cup. In 2002, he appeared in all five of the country’s games and scored three goals. In 2022, all eyes will be on Sadio Mane, who plays his club football at German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

However, the roster also boasts many quality players such as goalkeeper Edouard Mendy who plays his club soccer for Premier League side Chelsea and midfielder Idrissa Gueye who plays for Everton.

How to Watch Team Senegal With an OTA Antenna

If you have an antenna, you can probably watch the games that are broadcast on Fox or Telemundo as both channels broadcast their signals through the air. This includes almost all of the games in the knockout phase (Round of 16 and beyond).

However, as FS1 and Universo are “cable” channels, you will not be able to watch games appearing on those channels without access to cable or a live TV streaming service.
