NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs on Sling TV: Watch All the Action Without the Need for Cable

Last Updated:

We are right in the middle of the 2022-23 NHL regular season. It all comes to an end on April 13th with 15 games. Then it is on to the Stanley Cup playoffs. You will be able to follow the regular season then watch all of the playoff games with Sling TV. Read on for all the details!

In a hurry? Watch the regular season and postseason with ESPN, TBS/TNT, and NHL Network with Sling Orange starting at $40.00/mo!

NHL (like MLB and NBA) is regionally broadcast. That means that to watch most of the games featuring your local team, you need an RSN. And that means a lot of cost.

But you can still watch all the nationally televised games (which is a lot) with Sling TV. And you can watch every playoff game on the schedule!

How to Watch the NHL on TV

Nationally televised NHL games appear on just three channels:

Most days, there are two NHL games broadcast on these national TV channels. But there are a lot more NHL hockey games. Each NHL team plays 82 regular season games. Because of the relatively modest interest in these games, most are only aired regionally on the teams’ regional sports networks (RSN).

If you are interested in your local team, check out your options in our NHL guide. And if you are interested in a particular team that is not local to you, check out ESPN+. It offers most out-of-market games, meaning that there is a blackout for matchups featuring your local team as well as some nationally televised games.

But for most sports fans, the nationally televised games are more than enough. If you’re also into college hockey, the NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament is happening in late March/early April, and you can watch that on Sling, too.

Stream the NHL With Sling TV

Sling Orange ($40.00/mo) provides ESPN, ESPN2, TBS, and TNT. It also offers all the games that air on ABC via ESPN3. This will allow you to watch roughly half of the nationally broadcast games during the regular season and every game of the post season.

During the regular season, NHL Network airs a lot of games. You can get it (along with 13 other sports channels) with the Sports Extra add-on for $11/mo. NHL Network also airs the later rounds of the NHL Draft and the annual Hockey Hall of Fame Induction.

The Disney Channel is also included with Sling Orange. And it gives you the option to get other Disney channels as add-ons. There are 31 live TV channels with the plan, including AMC, Comedy Central, HGTV, History Channel, Lifetime, MotorTrend, Nick Jr, and more.

The biggest selling point of Sling TV is all its options. The Sling Blue plan offers Fox and NBC channels (including the local channels themselves in select markets) as well as NFL Network in a 40+ channel plan. You can get the two TV packages as Sling Orange & Blue plan ($55.00/mo). But there are dozens of individual add-ons and channel collections each costing just a few dollars.

All the base plans come with 50 hours of cloud DVR so you can record games if you are out.
