Cycling has become incredibly popular over the last decade, and no event is as big as the Tour de France.

First held in 1903, the race consists of 21-day stages that take place over three weeks. The stages are classified as either “hilly,” “flat,” “mountain,” or “time trial”, and the winner is the cyclist with the fastest overall time for all 21 stages.

Jonas Vingegaard (Team Jumbo-Visma) won last year, having already won in 2022, so he will be back this year seeking his third straight victory.

The Tour de France is the oldest of the three Grand Tours, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a España being the other two.

While the route changes every year, the majority of it usually takes place in France, though stages sometimes cross into other countries such as Belgium or Switzerland. This year, the race will start in Florence, Italy.

Here are all the details to learn how to watch Tour de France 2024 online without cable using Sling TV.

FAQs

How to watch Tour de France Femmes?

Tour De France Femmes is a new, female version of the Tour that consists of only eight stages, created by the same organization that runs the Tour de France. Like the male version, it’s an annual cycling event around France, and broadcast rights are exclusive to NBC Sports and Peacock. Previous editions have taken place straight after the men’s race in July, but due to the Summer Olympics, the Tour de France Femmes 2024 will be 12th to 18th August.

What does the yellow jersey mean?

The yellow jersey is worn by whichever rider has the fastest overall time after each stage. This means the cyclist wearing it after all 21 stages is the winner.

There’s also a green jersey which is given to the fastest sprinter, a polka-dot jersey which is given to the best climber, and a white jersey which is awarded to the best rider under 26 years old. These stage wins can alter daily, so it’s worth checking in often to see how the rankings are changing.

What is the champs-élysées?

The Champs-Élysées is an avenue in Paris and is usually the final stage of the Tour. Because of the 2024 Summer Olympics, which are being held in Paris, the race is ending in Nice, so the peloton won’t get a chance to sprint down the Champs-Élysées this year.

This is also the first year the grand départ will take place in Italy. The race will include four countries this year – Italy, San Marino, Monacco, and France.

How to watch Tour de France 2024 online (outside the US)?

The Tour de France is popular all over the world, so many countries will air the entire event live. How to watch Tour de France depends on where you are, as most countries have individual broadcast agreements with their local networks and streaming services. For example, fans in Canada can stream on FloBikes, those in Australia can watch on SBS, and most of Europe can tune in to Eurosport.

Anyone lucky enough to be within the French border can line the streets to catch the action firsthand, with footage also being broadcast on France TV.
