Wimbledon, The Championships, as it’s officially called (check out the logo) is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. It’s been held annually by the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC, and formerly the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club) in Wimbledon, London, England, since 1877.
The Wimbledon tournament is one of four tennis championships that make up the tennis Grand Slam, and the only one to be played on grass courts. The Australian Open and US Open are both played on hard courts, and the French Open is played on the red-clay surface of Roland Garros. It also features as an event on both the ATP Tour and the WTA Tour.
