How to Stream MGM+ Without Cable

If you’re a current or classic movie fan like I am, MGM+ is a great way to get classics and today’s films. I’ll show you the best ways to get this popular channel.

In a hurry? The easiest way to get MGM+ is as an add-on to a streaming service. Here are our top choices:

  • Sling TV: Probably the best streaming service in terms of customization with a super low price and a $25 discount on your first month.
  • DIRECTV STREAM: Provides everything you expect from cable with many options. A 5-day free trial is now available for DIRECTV STREAM.
  • Fubo: With 150+ channels, it offers something for everyone. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.

How to Stream MGM+

MGM+ is a group of four multiplex linear channels:

  • MGM+: The main flagship channel
  • MGM+ Hits Mostly for overflow from the main MGM+ feed
  • MGM+ Marquee: Feature films, documentaries, original comedy and music specials, and MGM+’s unscripted series
  • MGM+ Drive-In: All movies, all the time, from the 1970s on.

MGM+ is available through many streaming services as an add-on:

Other Ways to Stream MGM+

You can get the MGM+ app, an over-the-top (OTT) service marketed directly to consumers, that provides live channels and an on-demand library. It’s commercial-free and costs $6.99/month.

You can get the MGM+ app from the Google Play or Apple App stores to watch on mobile devices. It’s not widely available on smart TVs but you can add the app via Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, or Roku.

Streaming Perks

With Fubo, DIRECTV STREAM, Philo, and YouTube TV you get unlimited cloud DVR storage. Sling offers 50 hours of cloud DVR storage. Amazon Prime’s DVR only applies to the live events it broadcasts, like Thursday Night Football.

The number of screens you get depends on the service and plan.

  • Sling: 4 screens
  • Fubo: 2-10 screens
  • DIRECTV STREAM: Unlimited screens
  • Philo: 10 user profiles
  • YouTube TV: 6 users and 3 screens
  • Amazon Prime: 6 users and 3 screens

These streaming services also support most devices and smart TVs but you’ll want to check our streaming services reviews to see if your device is supported.

Our Choice

If you’re interested in getting the MGM+ channels as cheaply as possible and you’re OK with watching them on a mobile device, then I recommend getting the MGM+ app since it’s only $6.99/month.

Another budget option is to add it for $6.99/month to your monthly Amazon Prime Video membership.

FAQ

What Is MGM+?

MGM+ was launched in 2009 as Epix. It was a joint venture between Paramount Pictures, MGM, and Lionsgate. It arose from a licensing spat with Showtime.

In 2016, Lionsgate bought Starz and CBS (then-owner of Showtime) and Viacom (then-owner of Paramount Pictures) had begun talk of re-merging. This led to MGM buying out Paramount and Lionsgate in 2017. Just recently, Amazon acquired MGM, so now Amazon ultimately owns MGM+.

In 2019, MGM+ spawned a spin-off channel, ScreenPix, that focuses more on classic movies from 1960-to 2000.

What happened to EPIX?

EPIX was renamed MGM+. It’s as simple as that. EPIX was always the streaming service of MGM but most people didn’t know that. So the new makes this connection clear and will probably fight the mistaken impression that the channel is “STARZ but less.” Otherwise, MGM+ is the same as EPIX — including on-demand and linear channels.
