Next Detroit Lions Game

Dan Campell might be one of the most entertaining coaches in football, and his personality shines through the entire roster when they play. On Sunday night, the Lions rode David Montgomery to a 26-20 victory in overtime. During the overtime session, Montgomery ran five times for 45 yards and the winning touchdown.

Jameson Williams had his breakout game as he caught five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. Williams was picked in the first round of the 2022 draft but struggled to stay healthy during his first two NFL seasons.

Going into Week 3 the Detroit Lions are at 1-1.

Detroit Lions fans in the Great Lakes region can see every game live. But fans in other areas will usually be more limited. There are, however, ways to watch these games. Our NFL Out-of-Market Football Games guide explains all the details.

One solution for this is NFL Sunday Ticket. However, it is expensive. The other solution is to use a VPN to watch out-of-market NFL games. There are complications with this method. But you should generally be able to watch the games you want using ExpressVPN.

About the Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers by Mike Morbeck under CC BY-SA 2.0.

The Detroit Lions have been entertaining fans for over 80 years in the Motor City where they have played at Ford Field since 2002. While it sometimes can be hard to love the Lions, who are known for never making it to the Super Bowl, fans still remain hopeful.

Head coach Dan Campbell famously said that the team was going to eat some kneecaps when he took over the job three years ago. Last year, the Lions won as many playoff games as they had since 1957 when they advanced all the way to the NFC title game. They are currently ranked in the top 5 of NFL teams.

Lions Roster

During the offseason, the team placed its faith in Jared Goff, who was once considered a placeholder after arriving in a trade with the Rams. He was signed to a deal worth $212 million over four years, which makes him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. Goff has meshed well with Amon-Ra St Brown and has taken advantage of a backfield that includes David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Sam LaPorta was a revelation at tight end as a rookie, which is unusual because most tight ends typically take a year or two to develop.

Detroit also caught a break when offensive coordinator Ben Johnson declined a chance to interview to be the head coach of the Washington Commanders. He is considered to be one of the shrewdest minds in the game right now and will have another year to help Goff and the offense.

On defense, the Lions will count on Aidan Hutchinson to rush the passer while Brian Branch will lead the team in the secondary. The defense is led by coordinator Aaron Glenn, who went from the hot seat to becoming one of the more heralded coaches as the 2023 season progressed.

Other Information About the Lions

Notable Lions players include Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, and Dick “Night Train” Lane.

The Green Bay Packers are typically considered to be the team’s biggest rival. Prior to this season, the Lions had made 13 playoff appearances since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.

FAQs

How do I watch the Detroit Lions on my phone?

How do I record Detroit Lions live games?

Most cable and satellite providers and streaming services such as Fubo provide you with the option to record programming, including Detroit Lions games. One important exception to note is NFL Sunday Ticket broadcasts which may not be recorded. What radio stations are the Detroit Lions on?

The Lions have dozens of radio affiliates across Michigan. Their flagship station is Detroit’s 97.1 FM WXYT. However, fans who are located elsewhere can listen to a number of Detroit Lions games on their local Westwood One Sports affiliates, including any postseason contests that Detroit plays in. You can also listen to both of those types of broadcasts online after purchasing a TuneIn Premium, SiriusXM, or NFL+ subscription.

Do Detroit Lions games sell out?

For the 2023 NFL season, the Detroit Lions reported that they sold out all tickets. Fortunately, game sell-out status does not affect local viewers as the NFL does not impose its blackout rule anymore. This means that local fans can catch the action on their screens without any hurdles.

NFL’s blackout policy, initiated in 1973 and implemented till 2014, said that games could not be televised in the local region if they were not sold out 72 hours before kickoff.

How many championships have the Detroit Lions won?

Although the Detroit Lions have never played in the Super Bowl, they have claimed four NFL championships, all won before the first Super Bowl took place in January 1967. Those occurred in 1935, 1952, 1953, and 1957. In addition, the franchise has won five division titles, in 1935, 1983, 1991, 1993, and 2023. The 1991 and 2023 seasons were the closest that Detroit has been to the Super Bowl, falling in that NFC championship game.
