San Francisco 49ers Week 3

Running back Christian McCaffrey did not play in San Francisco’s season opener with the Jets, but it ultimately did not matter as backup Jordan Mason rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown, and the 49ers eased past the Jets, 32-19, on Monday.

McCaffrey’s dual Achilles and calf injuries may also rule him out for SF’s first road game of the season, a trip to Minnesota on Sunday, in his team’s lone non-West Coast game until November. However, holding him out on Monday did seem precautionary as head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game that McCaffrey would have likely played had it been a postseason contest.

As we enter Week 3, the San Francisco 49ers currently hold a record of 1-1.

Out-of-Market San Francisco 49ers Games

All fans in northern California get to watch every Sunday afternoon San Francisco game on their local channels. But fans who are out-of-market won’t generally be as lucky. For information on watching these games, see our NFL Out-of-Market Football Games guide.

One option for people who want to watch out-of-market games is NFL Sunday Ticket. However, it is quite expensive and is only available through YouTube and YouTube TV. A more affordable solution is to use a VPN. We recommend ExpressVPN.

About the San Francisco 49ers

The founding of the San Francisco 49ers dates back to them being original members of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). Today, people all over the country are rooting for this Bay Area team.

San Francisco has been one of the league’s most consistent teams in the NFC over the last several seasons, and they made their second trip to the Super Bowl since 2020 last year. Unfortunately, for the second time this decade, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the title game.

Of course, there is a lot to like about this team moving forward. Brock Purdy is playing like one of the best quarterbacks in the league even though he only counts roughly $1 million toward their salary cap. They’ll also have Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk at their disposal assuming Aiyuk doesn’t get traded.

The defense will also have several quality players at all levels including defensive end Nick Bosa, linebacker Fred Warner, and Talanoa Hufunga at safety. With all that firepower on the roster, the Niners are early favorites to win the NFC again and appear in the Super Bowl.

San Francisco will have a deceptively tough schedule this year with games against Buffalo on the road and Detroit at home. They will also have home games against Kansas City, Los Angeles, and Seattle that should prove to be tough tests.

As Brock Purdy is due for a serious raise after this season, this could be the final year in the current Super Bowl window. Of course, even if they don’t get it done this year, the 49ers can reflect on their five Super Bowl championships, the last of which came in 1994.

Notable players who have spent time with the Niners include Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice. Rice is widely considered to be the best receiver to ever play and holds the all-time records for yards and touchdowns. Their current rivals include the Rams, Seahawks, and Cardinals, and they have heated histories with the Packers and Cowboys.

FAQs

What radio stations are the 49ers on?

The 49ers radio network stretches extensively throughout Northern California as well as into select communities in Nevada, Oregon, and Hawaii. The team’s flagship stations are KNBR 680 and KSAN 107.7 The Bone, both of which serve the Bay Area. KNBR’s signal strength is particularly powerful; it reaches all of Northern California on its own. Nationwide, you can listen through SiriusXM.

How do I watch the 49ers on my phone?

Those who are local 49ers fans – located in Northern California – can utilize NFL+ to watch games on their mobile devices for $6.99/mo. It provides Sunday afternoon contests that are broadcast on your local affiliates and prime-time match-ups that are shown on a national basis. You can also watch on your phone through live TV streaming services like Fubo.

How many championships have the 49ers won?

The 49ers had once claimed the most Super Bowl championships of any NFL team with five but have since been surpassed by the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, who have now won six apiece. San Francisco’s titles came predominantly during its heyday in the 1980s, when it won four Super Bowls, before adding its fifth following the 1994 campaign. The 49ers have also claimed eight NFC titles and 22 NFC West crowns.

Do San Francisco 49ers games sell out?

In recent times, most San Francisco 49ers games have been sold out. Whether a game is sold out or not, local fans can always watch the 49ers on TV or other devices without facing any blackouts as the NFL no longer imposes its blackout policy (last utilized in 2014).

How do I record 49ers live games?

You have several options available to you when you want to record live 49ers games for later viewing. Many cable and satellite providers offer this feature for many of their channels, although note that this option is not available for NFL Sunday Ticket broadcasts. As for streaming services, all provide a DVR. For example, Fubo provides unlimited cloud DVR storage to its subscribers and Sling TV offers 50 hours.
