Houston Roughnecks Overview

The history of the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL is a bit confusing. Last year, the XFL had a team named the Houston Roughnecks. So it would be reasonable to think that this new team is just the Roughnecks from the XFL moving over. But it isn’t.

The Houston Roughnecks is the new name of the Houston Gamblers that played in the USFL last year.

Notable Players on the Houston Roster

Jarrett Guarantano, Nolan Henderson, and Reid Sinnett are set as quarterbacks for the Roughnecks. Tiyon Evans, TJ Pledger, and Mark Thompson as set as running backs.

The squad also includes wide receivers Emmanuel Butler, Keke Chism, Steven Dunbar, Cyril Grayson, Justin Hall, Isiah Hennie, Kirk Merritt, Anthony Ratliff-Williams, and Isaiah Zuber. The remaining tight ends are Braedon Bowman, Woody Brandom, Rodell Rahmaan, and Clint Sigg.

On defense are linebackers Ronheen Bingham, Ayinde Eley, Reuben Foster, Marvin Moody, Gabriel Sewell Jr, and Jeremiah Tyler. In the backfield are Jamari Brown, Manny Bunch, Corn Elder, Ja’Von Hicks, Jai Nunn-Liddell, Jimmy Moreland, Colby Richardson, Markel Roby, Donald Rutledge Jr, and Kiondre Thomas.

Coaching Staff

Curtis Johnson is the head coach of the Roughnecks, just as he was for the Gamblers last year. Also moving over from last year are offensive coordinator Eric Price and defensive coordinator Chris Wilson.

About Rice Stadium

Last year, the Gamblers played at the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium but now this will be home of the Memphis Showboats. This year, the Roughnecks will play its home games at the Rice Stadium on the Rice University campus in Houston.

The 47,000 capacity stadium can be expanded to allow for 59,000 attendees. It is an old stadium, opened back in 1950.

UFL Entry

Starting in the 2024 season, the Houston Roughnecks have moved into the USFL Conference of the UFL.
