About Auburn Tigers Football Team

The Auburn Tigers have participated in college athletics since 1892, and the school is currently a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). It plays its home games at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which it has done since 1939 when it was called Auburn Stadium.

Auburn is considered to have one of the best football programs in the nation. Auburn is also competitive in basketball, softball, baseball, and golf. The Tigers won their first of five national titles in football in 1913.

Entering 2024, the Tigers have two claimed national titles, the most recent in 2010. This was their first undisputed championship and came in the same year that quarterback Cam Newton won the Heisman Trophy.

It’s worth noting that the trophy – given to the most outstanding college football player each year – was named after the man who coached the team from 1895 to 1899, John Heisman. He is still widely considered to be one of the greatest coaches in football history. Other noteworthy alumni include legendary professional baseball and football player Bo Jackson, who attended the University of Auburn as well.

The Tigers also have four unclaimed national titles alongside eight SEC titles.

Auburn Tigers’ 2024 Season

Although Hugh Freeze returns for his second season as Auburn’s head coach in 2024, he brought in new coordinators on both sides of the ball. DJ Durbin will be the new defensive coordinator while Derrick Nix will oversee the offensive side of the ball.

This was in response to a disappointing 6-7 finish last year, including a 31-10 loss at home to New Mexico State. The team ended the season with a three-game losing streak culminating with a 31-13 loss to Maryland in the Music City Bowl.

In 2024, the offense will revolve around running back Jarquez Hunter. Although freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman is one of the top recruits in his class, there are doubts as to whether quarterback Payton Thorne will be able to get him the ball efficiently.

Auburn will also need to overcome the loss of five defensive players to the NFL draft. The Tigers lost corners Nehemiah Pritchett and D.J James as well as defensive tackles Justin Rogers and Marcus Harris. According to Pro Football Focus, the Tigers are projected to win 6.7 games this year.

Their nonconference schedule includes games against Alabama A&M and California at home. Notable conference games include contests against their top rivals Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide, which they meet in the Iron Bowl during the final week of the regular season.

FAQs

Can I watch Auburn football games without buying a cable or streaming package?

You can watch some games on ABC for free depending on where you live, as those channels broadcast a signal “over the air” that select markets can pick up with an antenna. But most games air on premium “cable” channels, such as those from ESPN. In these cases, your cheapest option is to go with Sling TV and stream them online.

Many streaming platforms offer free trials (DIRECTV STREAM, Fubo), meaning you may be able to watch a game or two without paying for a cable or streaming package. See our Free Trial List for more.

Where do the Auburn Tigers play?

The Auburn Tigers play in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) of NCAA Division I football. Which school is considered to be Auburn’s biggest rival?

Auburn has had a number of rivals throughout its history. These include Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Ole Miss, though most would say Alabama is the team’s biggest rival today. The two schools play each other in the Iron Bowl every year and, in most years, this game has significant implications for the SEC and national titles.

What college football team is AU?

The Auburn Tigers’ logo features the letters AU in orange and blue. The school’s official colors are burnt orange and navy blue. When you watch Auburn Tigers football games, you may see the scoreline abbreviation AU or AUB used for the team, depending on the network.

Where does Jordan-Hare Stadium rank in College Football 25’s “toughest places to play” rankings?

Jordan-Hare Stadium ranks number 14 in College Football 25’s “toughest places to play” rankings. College Football 25 is a sports game based on college football released by EA Sports for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in July 2024.
