Michigan Wolverines Football
Located in Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan is one of the most prestigious schools in the United States. The football program was established in 1879, and over the past 140+ years, it has won 45 Big Ten titles and claimed 12 national championships.
With 1,004 wins, Michigan has the most wins in college football history. Last season, after defeating Alabama in the Rose Bowl, they claimed the College Football Playoff National Championship against Washington.
The football team plays at Michigan Stadium, often referred to as the “Big House” as it holds roughly 115,000 fans at full capacity.
When Was the Last Time Michigan Won the National Championship?
Michigan won it all in the 2023 college football season. This was the Wolverines’ first national title in 26 years, and second in 75, and will never be forgotten by UM fans. Now we’ve turned to 2024, the biggest question is: “Can the Wolverines do it again?” The quick answer is probably not, but Michigan will likely still be in the College Football Playoff picture with a solid shot at going deep in the postseason.
For that to happen, the team must quickly acclimate itself to new head coach Sherrone Moore, after previous coach Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL. That said, the Wolverine players know Moore well as he has worked with the program since 2018, most recently as its offensive coordinator.
Getting the offense to gel despite being filled by many new pieces is key, as top players on the offensive line, at quarterback, at running back, and in the receiving corps have all departed. Some players expected to lead the way on this side of the ball in 2024 include running back Donovan Edwards, tight end Colston Loveland, and linemen Josh Priebe and Myles Hinton.
Also of note are the new coordinators in 2024: Kirk Campbell for the offense and Don Martindale for the defense.
The latter will be looking to keep last season’s top-ranked defense at a high level in 2024. A pair of transfers should contribute at the linebacker position: Jaishawn Barham from Maryland and Ernest Hausmann from Nebraska. Other top players for the Wolverines in 2024 are expected to be cornerback Will Johnson and defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham, all returners.
The team’s kicker is expected to be Dominic Zvada, who spent the last two years at Arkansas State, a team that UM faces in week three.
Michigan’s 2024 schedule will test the team. It features a non-conference home game with SEC member Texas and a conference tilt with new Big Ten school Oregon, while the away portion includes a matchup with last season’s title game opponent Washington and fierce rival and fellow Big Ten power Ohio State.
What Is the Michigan Wolverines Football Schedule for the 2024 Season?
