2024 Sugar Bowl

After a 19-year monopoly, two football games joined the Rose Bowl in New Year’s NCAA football action. In 1935, both the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl began.

The Sugar Bowl is one of the most iconic of the bowl games. It has been part of the New Year’s Six games of the College Football Playoff (CFP) starting in 2014. For the 2023-24 season, it hosts the Number 2 and Number 3 teams.

It has been associated with the Southeastern Conference from the beginning but it hadn’t been an official tie-in until 1976. It also has a tie-in with the Big 12 Conference since 2015.

Allstate Insurance sponsors the 2024 Sugar Bowl, as it has since 2007. Although rarely referred to by its branded name, these are the official names of the Sugar Bowl:

  • 1935 – 1986: Sugar Bowl
  • 1987 – 1995: USF&G Sugar Bowl
  • 1996 – 2006: Nokia Sugar Bowl
  • 2007 – 2024: Allstate Sugar Bowl

Here are the details for the 2024 Sugar Bowl:

  • Date: Monday, January 1, 2024
  • Kickoff Time:
  • Location: Caesars Superdome (New Orleans, Louisiana)
  • Channel: ESPN
  • Matchup: No 2 Washington Huskies vs No 3 Texas Longhorns
  • Last Year’s Results: Alabama (45) vs Kansas State (20)

ESPN is one of the most expensive TV channels to license. Everyone wants it. So consumers are normally charged a lot for it. But Sling TV has worked out a special deal that they’ve been offering for roughly a decade now.

The Sling Orange plan comes with 30+ TV channels includes ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3. The last one of these may not sound familiar because no one other than Sling offers it directly. It’s actually its own streaming service — offering multiple events at the same time. And it simulcasts almost everything from ABC Sports.

Since Sling Orange provides access to ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3 (ABC Sports), you get access to 39 of the 43 bowl games during the 2023-24 season. What about the other four? In most areas, you can simply put up a digital antenna and watch them for free!

The Holiday Bowl and the College Football National Championship will air on Fox. Fox, ABC, and NBC are available in select markets with the Sling Blue plan. It costs $40.00/mo on its own. But if you combine it with Sling Orange (Sling Orange & Blue), it is only $55.00/mo. And you get the same 50% discount on it!

Sling Orange Offers a Great Bundle of Channels

The highlight of Sling Orange is the three ESPN channels. It also includes The Disney Channel, but this isn’t as big a draw since the launch of Disney+. Sling Orange also comes with these channels:

Sling TV also provides unparalleled customization in terms of channel lineup. There are dozens of individual channel add-ons starting at $3/mo. And there are channel bundles starting at $6/mo.

The most important channel bundle is the Sports Extra. It’s also the most expensive at $11/mo. But it includes 13 impressive channels:

  • Longhorn Network
  • MLB Network
  • MLB Strike Zone
  • NBA TV

There is also a Sports Extra for the Sling Orange & Blue plan. It costs $15/mo and includes all 13 channels above as well as NFL RedZone, Big Ten Network, FS2, and the Golf Channel.

More Sling Orange Features

The base Sling Orange plan offers features that you would have to pay extra for with a cable plan. The most obvious is the inclusion of 50 hours of cloud DVR storage — something you will need if you want to watch every bowl game!

In addition, Sling Orange uses the exception Sling TV app. It is easy to use and powerful. Put all your favorite channels at the top of your guide. There’s no need to memorize a long list of channel numbers!

And the app is available on most devices:

  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Android mobile
  • Android TV smart TVs
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast
  • iOS (iPhone)
  • LG smart TVs
  • Roku
  • Samsung smart TVs
  • Vizio smart TVs

The only downside of Sling Orange is that it limits you to watching on one device at a time. This is to keep costs down. But it really is the only compromise you need to make!
