Table Of Contents
If your idea of a good time is sitting in a blind or on a boat, you will probably enjoy watching Sportsman Channel. This channel has hours of content dedicated to hunting, fishing, and other activities that are mostly conducted outside.
Let’s take a closer look at how this entity came to be and how you can gain access to its content library.
What Is Sportsman Channel?
The Sportsman Channel first launched in April 2003 by a pair of Wisconsin businessmen who retained control of the company until 2007. In 2014, the network was purchased from InterMedia Outdoor Holdings by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.
Sportsman Channel is affiliated with several others that are owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment such as Outdoor Channel, World Fishing Network, and the RSN Altitude.
Shows
This channel has a significant amount of original programming that airs throughout the day including Army Buck Hunters and On the Water with Hank Parker. If you are interested in learning more about the various tools that are used to hunt, fish or otherwise survive in remote locations, you’ll probably enjoy Outdoor Techsperts.
Perhaps the most interesting program on Sportsman Channel is MeatEater. Although it is now on Netflix, the show first aired on this network and showcases a hunter who teaches viewers how to cook, skin, and otherwise make use of the animals that he kills.
The Western Hunter is one of the more unique programs on Sportsman Channel as it takes viewers to locations in Mexico and the United States. Furthermore, it asks viewers to think about the value of preservation of natural lands and the ways that humans impact animals and their habitats.
Finally, For Love or Likes (airs originally on sister-station Outdoor Channel) is a show that features an all-female cast of professional hunters. The premise of the show is that they must document their adventures on social media for the rest of the world to see. However, the show does provide participants a chance to prove their worth and build their online following at the same time.
Live Events
As with Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel primarily features Major League Fishing (MLF) and Bass Pro Tour fishing tournaments.
However, every so often, you may get live coverage of a hunt or live coverage of animals roaming around various nature preserves throughout the country.
Sister Stations
Sportsman Channel has a few sister stations that are closely aligned with it.
Outdoor Channel is one of the most popular providers of content for those who enjoy hunting and fishing. In addition, you’ll be treated to a variety of news and opinion shows that cover topics such as self-defense, gun safety, and the Second Amendment.
As the name implies, World Fishing Network provides viewers with an in-depth look into this activity. Whether you like to fish for fun, for sport, or a mixture of both, you’ll likely spend hours each month watching this channel. In addition to original television programs, you’ll also be able to watch live events from the most popular fishing leagues in America.
Altitude is a regional sports network (RSN) that focuses more on extreme sports as opposed to traditional outdoor life. It also features extensive coverage of Denver Nuggets (NBA), Colorado Avalanche (NHL), and Colorado Rapids (MLS). For the most part, this channel is available in Colorado and select areas surrounding the state.
MyOutdoorTV airs many of the same shows that appear on Sportsman Channel and Outdoor Channel on-demand. It is also associated with magazines like Bowhunter and Guns & Ammo magazines. But this entity is its own channel that may or may not be made available by a local cable or streaming service. You can also subscribe directly.
